Falling apart….

Age? Its not a team of 35 year olds. Plenty of combat athletes dont hit their prime until 27-32. Age isnt an issue.
Coaching? S&C? Psychology? Nutrition? Could be a lot of things, but age isnt one of them.

Can’t blame age on guys not getting better at offense or developing more the last couple years. Sure, some injuries severely limiting a couple. But many guys hitting the same stuff or doing less on offense.

Age is absolutely a factor, especially for injuries and when having to cut/maintain weight.

I would agree. NOT time to start pointing fingers, sell the farm, jump a bridge etc..... At the end of season though, it is time to start looking at everything. There is always plenty of talk about "doing whatever it takes", "making tough choices." "moving forward." etc.....

Coach Brands received a new contract. It is time to get to work leaving no stone unturned. We had our star 125 go down, our back up 125 hurt, our 133 hurt, our 141 hurt, our 149 hurt, our 174 hurt and our 285 hurt. That is just right now!!!

I would start with when/how they all got hurt. My guess is mostly live goes, but what part of season? What was going on going into when they got hurt. Was it early in season and they were not in top shape? Was it mid-season and we were doing 2 a days? Was it when an individual was cutting to make weight? etc.....

come up with answers, then maybe ask more questions? What could we do better? More drilling and less goes? More rest, less intense practices leading up into season etc......

Will have many new faces, time to see what that next gen does? Several very promising men, they have to make a impact next season for us to compete for a title. find a 157, and we should be in the mix once again.

Most combat athletes compete anywhere from once a year to a handful of times a year. Not the NCAA wrestling grind at all. It isn’t exactly a secret that even 22 year old D1 wrestlers are injured more often than their 18 year old counterparts.

This is such a bad take. It’s now much more common to see guys best wrestling done in their sophomore and junior years as the grind of D1 takes such a large toll. There are no wrestlers in the world that compete as often as a D1 college season.

Every criticism of this team and the coaches should start with “even though we’re basically 2x defending NCAA champs”.

This is the most injury riddled team I’ve ever seen in D1 from a standpoint of “pts when healthy, vs not”. Also, PSU has a stitched together group of transfers and late additions. 100% of their room is Top 10 PFP guys coming out of school. Half have achieved (Lee, Brooks, Star) and half not (Howard, Beau, Verk, Manville, etc). They’ve just managed to backfill with transfers that no one was been able to replicate. That’s where we should be focusing our attention vs just saying how no one fights anymore and the coaching sucks.

Holy frickin lolsies

“combat athletes” don’t train year round and compete weekly or even more than weekly for four months straight. Jesus Christ, are you that dense?

MMA fighters have 45-60 day training camps and fight maybe a couple times a year at the top level.

You’re crazy with that take.
