Fant a soft verbal?

Always appeared to be a smart kid. A smart kid sees what Iowa has done with their TE's. The emphasis iowa put on them this year and how many targets and catches they had.

A smart kid looks at UN and says "are these coaches actually going to be here by the time I graduate"?

I see him sticking with Iowa. Where the momentum is. The stability is. The higher level of coaching and much better development is. In all of those categories? It isn't even close

There has to be some news from some place. We offer Brodner from Illinois, that has to be a sign that someone is leaving or that we have a verbal that has changed their mind. It wouldn't surprise me in the end to find Fant ending up at Nebraska.

I remember when a lot of Hawk fans thought Drew Ott was going to de-commit from Iowa and go to Neb. just because they saw him on the Husker sideline during a Neb. game. I'm sure in the end Fant will commit to Iowa just because they have more to offer.

A lot of Hawk fans thought the same thing about Melvin Gordon when they saw him on the Badger sideline during a Wisconsin game after committing to Iowa. All he did was win the Doak Walker and become a 1st round NFL draft pick.......and it wasn't at Iowa.

With Fant, it ain't a tshirt. It is that he has publicly stated that he is open to an offer from his dream schools.

I'm happy if Nebraska gets him, doesn't really matter to me if they don't. Riley and staff seem to be targeting plenty of others at that position. I just love that NU is running an offense that uses the TE again.

Well we know why they offered Brodner now. Fant taking an official visit to Minnesota. I guarantee you the coaches said ok, you take the visit but you know longer have a guaranteed spot in the class.

If we lose out on fant it's no biggie to me.. I think hockerson and Breyer project out better at te.. And room will be limited at de here in 2 years. With epenesa, lattimore, golshton, Simon, McKnight, Kirkpatrick, now granted some will switch positions.

I agree. Fant is not a priority with two other TEs in the class and I think Welch could be a TE as well.

I saw a tweet saying he would be speaking with Iowa coaches today about whether he will actually take his official to Iowa this weekend. I'd guess KF and Co. have cooled and he won't actually take an official this weekend. As a previous poster suggested, I'm sure they let him know in no uncertain terms that he's free to take other visits but there may not be room for him here.

Like I said back when he committed. I believe he will be a Hawkeye when he signs. It wouldn't surprise me to see Fant at Minnesota with how they use the tight ends.

I smell a little Derrick Willies flavored prima donna about him.

I sure do remember you saying that and I agree with you. If he wants to be a Hawkeye great, if he doesn't, that's alright too.

The thing I worry about with kids like this is that that they will already have one foot out the door even if they commit and will transfer at the first sign of adversity which is basically a wasted scholarship. I would rather get someone who was sure they wanted to come to Iowa.

I was just curious since in all reality if Fant goes to Nebby, Frost will be his head coach in two years.

Ha. True. Though I'm not banking on that happening.

I am excited to see what Frost will run down there. He has experience with Bill Walsh at Stanford, NU's power run/option scheme, and now Oregon's spread. It's going to be interesting.

Omaha radio (hosted by a guy who played with Frost) has been saying it's awfully arrogant for NU fans to just expect that Scott Frost even wants to come here. No one has heard him mention it, and he wasn't even contacted for the recent hire per what I've read.

As a Nebraska fan, I'm only nervous b/c we'd spend the next few years building a Pro-Style offense, and if Frost wants to run spread option, we'll have to start all over again in recruiting and teaching scheme. Ugh. Not fun to watch that process.

That is 100% true, if you let Riley even bring in 2-3 classes then hire a guy like Frost. You'd almost have to give him 4 years minimum to bring guys in because Riley recruits cannot run the offense Frost wants IMO. Unless Frost would adapt, which he'd obviously have to.

Frost has never had a P5 head coaching job, and has never coached a game as a head coach.

I think he would be interested in the Nebraska job.

Can't sign until the 3rd. This young man is a great athlete, he can be a star for the Hawks. Let's not be so quick to dismiss this young man. He wants to be sure.
