So, I have #9 pick in 10 team league and person at 2 is willing to trade draft positions.

I was looking and ESPN has leveon bell #1, then gurley, david Johnson, Antonio brown and zeke Elliot. Below is their rankings. Our draft will go a little different as people will not wait until round 5/6 to take a qb as the rankings have it.

Which is the best spot to pick from? I think I would take gurley if I were picking 1st...

Le'Veon Bell RB PIT RB1
2. Todd Gurley II RB LAR RB2
3. David Johnson RB ARI RB3
4. Antonio Brown WR PIT WR1
5. Ezekiel Elliott RB DAL RB4
6. Saquon Barkley RB NYG RB5
7. Alvin Kamara RB NO RB6
8. Julio Jones WR ATL WR2
9. DeAndre Hopkins WR HOU WR3
10. Odell Beckham Jr. WR NYG WR4
11. Kareem Hunt RB KC RB7
12. Dalvin Cook RB MIN RB8
13. Keenan Allen WR LAC WR5
14. Leonard Fournette RB JAC RB9
15. Melvin Gordon RB LAC RB10
16. Michael Thomas WR NO WR6
17. A.J. Green WR CIN WR7
18. Christian McCaffrey RB CAR RB11
19. Devonta Freeman RB ATL RB12
20. Davante Adams WR GB WR8
21. Rob Gronkowski TE NE TE1
22. Mike Evans WR TB WR9
23. LeSean McCoy RB BUF RB13
24. Larry Fitzgerald WR ARI WR10
25. T.Y. Hilton WR IND WR11
26. Adam Thielen WR MIN WR12
27. Doug Baldwin WR SEA WR13
28. Stefon Diggs WR MIN WR14
29. Travis Kelce TE KC TE2
30. Zach Ertz TE PHI TE3

I don't know , a Hopkins and Cook combo is not a bad option

But yeah, this year the top end talent probably justifies picking at 2
I think a Gurley/Gronk combo scores more than a Hopkins/Cook. Even Gurley+Adams/Freeman/Evans. If Gurley even sniffs a year like last year he's worth waiting 17 more turns before your 2nd pick.

In any fantasy draft I always prefer to be right in the middle of the draft order because these teams always come down to balance and depth. As for your question, I would take position #9 because you will get a high quality player at #9 then turn around and get another one with the #12 overall pick. If you are in the #2 position your next pick is not until #19, by then a lot is off the board. Inevitably, whenever I have had a high draft position the player I draft suffers an injury, is an incredible bust, or simply doesn't perform that much better to warrant a high pick. I hate picking at the top.

Would there be any other compensation for trading draft positions? In theory, if both of you are sane owners making reasonable draft positions, I'd rather be at 2 because getting a top 3-4 player can be a really big deal. If I was at 2 and the guy at 9 wanted to trade up, I'd want to do something like maybe make the trade plus I'd get your maybe 6th round pick for something like my 8th/9th round pick. If this is straight up, then I'd probably make the deal and pick at #2. It could be that he has a specific strategy he wants and therefore wants that sandwich 9/12 pick as opposed to 2/19.

well, yes, it is just trading positions for the entire draft and I think he views the drop off from 12 to 19 as more significant than the other.

Leveon or Zeke are good consolation prizes. I prefer them over DJ
so, you would rate them

Gurley
Bell
Zeke
DJ (or Antonio brown here).

I haven't done enough research to differentiate but there has to be some risk with bell holding out, no?

He's said he's not going to hold out during the season. Basically, he'll show up for Week 1, but not attend camp. In theory, that's fine, but I'm still surprised he didn't get injured last season.

Will just ask the question here instead of starting a new thread. Do any of you guys use FAAB for waivers? Better/Worse?

Also, once the draft has concluded, do you immediately make undrafted players free agents, or put them on waivers?

I've used FAAB sometimes and not sometimes. both ways have their strengths. If the goal with FAs is to help bad teams improve, then waiver order in reverse of standings is the most "fair", but FAAB adds a cool strategy component to it. It seems every year that there's an idiotic drop or an injury replacement who suddenly has massive value and is worth dumping most of your budget on in one shot. In other cases, you can try to get guys cheap and save money for someone in the 2nd half when some other teams have drained their reserves.

As for the post-draft time, most leagues I've played have based that on when the draft is. If the draft is 3-4 weeks early, you run the risk of top picks getting hurt moreso than just the last couple of weeks (though obviously it can still happen then). When the draft has been early, then the FAAB has typically applied to the pool, but when the draft is 10-14 days before the start of the season, then we usually just let it ride and it's a straight up FA situation, the logic being that every team had plenty of shots to grab each player that's sitting available.
