Favorite Songs of Artists that Were Taken from Us Too Soon

Jim Morrison and Janice Joplin and Jimi Hendrix were all in their 27th year when they left us. 3 musical geniuses. Light My Fire, A Little Piece of my Heart and All Along the Watch Tower was the tip of these guys musical mountain.
Not taking away from her performing talent, but cliff claven told me that it is a little known fact that “Piece of My Heart" was written by Jerry Ragovoy and Bert Berns, and “Me and My Bobby McGee” was written by Kris Kristofferson.

and this one, which was written by Steve Gaines several years before he joined Skynyrd. RVZ was in awe of Gaines' talent, both on the guitar and vocals, and told others that the rest of the band would eventually be in his shadow...

Early death creates legends out of some OK performers. Janis Joplin is a bit overrated. So was Morrison.
So was Morrsion”

I'll also offer up this gem:

Early years Chicago, heavily built around Terry Kath's amazing guitar work, was absolutely incredible - a great blend of rock and jazz. After his death, they moved away from the rock side & went more jazz/melody/ballad. But with Kath, they could flat-out rock with anyone.

Frank Sinatra never sang a song of his own…Didn’t Bob Dylan write “All along the Watch Tower”? These guys were musical geniuses who left us way too early…tremendous talents, all! (I absolutely loved JJ and her “bluesy voice”…I did see her in concert back in the day 55-60 years ago….she consumed a bottle of whiskey during her on stage performance…I wonder what went wrong?)

How did he die and how old was he? I've enjoyed many of his songs ()"Bad Bad Leroy Brown" is probably my favorite of his) but never followed up on him. I suppose I could Google it but it's more fun to hear other people explain it.
Plane crash. Only 30 years old. 🙁

I absolutely love that song. A lot of people, when they talk about Jimi, talk about him playing the guitar with his tongue or setting it on fire. Or playing the Star Spangled Banner with all the wild distortion at Woodstock.

For me, his best stuff was the slower, bluesier songs like that one and Hey Joe and Red House and a bunch of others. I never much cared for all the theatrics. I just like the music.
