I don't read or know as much about this as basketball, so how are people feeling?
TREND is versus expectation from December:
QB: B- TREND = Slightly up ...... All comes down to how accurate Petras is, particularly on deep throws
RB: B+ TREND = Slightly up ...... Depth a question, but Goodson looks great and FB is solid! Need Gavin and other RB's to come along quickly.
WR: B TREND = Up ...... Needed to see and hear more about Tracy, Bruce and Johnson, and signals are up strong this Spring!
TE: B+ TREND = Slightly up ..... LaPorta great and Lachey trending up - how will blocking and depth be?
OL: B- TREND = Slightly down ...... heard that the overall OL group has a ton of potential, but if we can't protect Petras then teams will stack our interior and rush our ends. OT is key to the season perhaps.
K: B+ TREND = Slightly up ...... sounds like we have a very solid Kicker who should be in the top half of the B10, and a backup with a good leg but needs grooming
P: A TREND = OY! ....... will be fun to watch our punter try to improve on last season, if possible
R: A- TREND = Flat ...... Jones is great for both return teams, need to replace ISM so finding a 2nd person here is key. Special teams should be special!
DL: B TREND = Strongly up ...... sounding really good not only for the starting 4 but the entire 8 man rotation! Our good teams can hold the interior and get pressure with 4, so our DE's need some pass rush.
LB: B+ TREND = Flat ...... expect them to be very solid and so far so good
SF: A TREND = Flat ...... Strong returning group performing well, and depth behind them looks solid.
CB: A- TREND = Flat ...... Strong returning group performing well, a talented transfer in Xavier. Less clear how the 2 and 3 deep depth is coming along.
OFFENSE: B+ TREND = Strongly up, ..... all comes down to Petras accuracy and OT play imo. A lot of good passing targets and RB play, and ability to run up the middle. Can we protect the edge and run off the edge though?
DEFENSE: A- TREND = Strongly up ...... DL looks like it may be very solid, and other position groups remain strong. Another stingy bend but don't break defense - can we get a pass rush with 4?
SPECIAL: A TREND = Slightly up ...... feel good about this group all the way around and can win 1-2 games just with special teams play
What would you change or add to the above?
It's funny how this time of year and in early August all positions can seem like a B or higher, and then after you lose that first game it becomes clearer which position group is actually a C .... lol.
