the TCU qb Boykin was arrested for a bar fight yesterday prior to their bowl game which is in a few days.

I assumed that players would be on lockdown or something. Does KF allow the guys to party it up before the game? Are Iowa players hitting the LA scene?

It seems risky. Why would you give these kids any opportunity to be distracted or get into trouble. They can hit the town after the game.

Very stupid. No players should be out at night before the bowl game, especially in bars. He should have to miss some of the bowl game, he hit an officer.

I know Kirk used to let the team go out leading up to the game. Had a friend on 1st OB team. This was early-mid 2000s though. With social media and everything today Kirk may be a bit more strict.

Boykin was charged with a third degree felony assault of a police officer. Has a $5,000 bond. I'm not sure he deserves to play.

Just like a lot of coaches deserving to play isn't as important as his talent to make a difference in winning.

I could be remembering wrong, but after Iowa got beat pretty bad in that OB I thought Kirk put more of a focus on bau as opposed to treating the bowl trip as a vacation and reward for the players. Again, could be wrong.

This, KF changed bowl prep after the first Orange Bowl.

If he played for Dantonio he'd still play in the bowl game. But he doesn't and TCU is kind of a religious institution so the suspension is not surprising. Really being a bad teammate as you are letting your personal actions effect the TEAM.

That sounds right. Iowa kind of had a "just happy to be here" about them. Aside from last years sh--show Iowa seems to come out much more focused/prepared in bowls.

They should have cracked down hard, like you know, pull his summer school money or something.

As mentioned earlier, the 2003 Orange Bowl team lost sight of why they were there. Reading between the lines, it sounded like players were going out during bowl preparations and didn't focus enough on football. It certainly showed in the second half of that game.

When you get bombed your body is not only affected with a hangover the next day but for days afterwards. It takes a couple of days to recover and for your body to be at peak performance.

I understand these kids are in college, and I'd be all for partying it up when I was their age, but I now understand the toll it takes and what my priorities SHOULD be. Yep, I'm getting old.

So the people he was fighting were trash talking. So let's say they were Oregon fans. They got want they wanted. He didn't have enough self control to control himself for one night. They are probably drinking shots knowing that they got the starting qb suspended just by shouting words. Hopefully he has time to think about te consequences of your actions.

I never understood why guys get into bar fights. Especially anyone over 25.

I don't understand why a player would be in a bar at all with a game coming up.

I've always respected Patterson for staying in Fort Worth but he's had a run of discipline related issues among several of his players.

He broke curfew to go to a bar. And then he gets into a fight. Even college kids ought to be able to understand you can go to a bar anytime. You only have a tiny window when you can play in a bowl game. Selfish. Stupid. Immature. He'll be most fortunate if all that happens is being suspended from the bowl game.

This is what having a bad day looks like.

I'm not sure where he learned things, but we partied after the games in high school. We won a couple of state championships doing that. So, what I'm saying here is that high schoolers are smarter than this dude...and remember how stupid you were when you were 16-17...90% of your thoughts were focused on getting laid, and the other 10% was spread around to everything else. Boykin is flat out stupid.

No drinking here...a quote from A. Iverson's mom when her son was being "dissed" for lack of effort...

Nothing good happens after 2am.
I'm no lawyer, though I was in law school for a month. The first thing the criminal law professor laid out for us was four conditions that are present, in some combination, in every criminal case. Condition 1 was "after midnight." I'm struggling to remember the other ones, but I'm pretty sure #2 was "presence of alcohol."

Unrelated side note: the dude was a dead ringer for John Madden. Made class all the more interesting.

Nothing like destroying your draft chances right before your last chance to show NFL teams what you can do.
