Fear Not. Things Are Looking Up

We have #343 New Orleans coming in. 6200 crazy ice cream eaters will be there to see Iowa win by 30+. Then, another treat for real basketball fans -- #360 New Hampshire on tap.

Two more big W's for the Body of Work, baby!!!!
Hey, schedules like that have made football's Kirk Ferentz a legend who cannot be fired. The Hawkeyes open next year against Albany and also play mighty UMass. Move over Woody Hayes; here comes KF, the winningest coach in Big Ten history because, after all, beating Albany, UMass, UNI, and the rest of those fearsome opponents counts the same as beating Oregon or Texas or Georgia.

That'll crank up the NET rankings, and pack Carver!

I can recall the days where we had teams like Arizona, UNC, UCLA, Kansas and Duke visit Carver on occasion. Win or lose, those were exciting games to look forward to. These days, it's creampuff city sans ISU every other year. The ACC/Big 10 challenge is gone now as well, so we don't even get that.

I remember that too but I'm old. Hell, I'm so old I can remember when Iowa was known year in and year out as one of the toughest rebounding teams in the Big Ten. Good times.

The last time Iowa has had any sustained national program type sheen was the first two years of Alford. That went to sh*t quickly. The #2 seed Garza team was a flash of national recognition.

When is the next time Iowa will receive AP top 25 votes? I'm afraid to answer.

These schedules are just ridiculous and do no good. To pad a tournament resume you need to play more 100 level teams. You don't have to match with high profile teams, just not the very bottom of the barrel year over year over year. A couple years ago Minnesota didn't play a single non con team in the double digits. But they were almost all 100-200 level teams and they got in th tournament with a fairly shitty record. They lost in the first round but at least that got them there with a team that wasn't very good.

But then again who cares when your entire coaching strategy consists of everybody getting hot and making a bunch of 3s. How many games in McCaffrey history has a game been won over a quality team where Iowa didn't make a ton of 3s?

Some of you are just spoiled. We just had the #3 in the country in Carver last nite. What are you all complaining about? ;)

Tom Davis coached teams used to usually be pretty strong on the glass, year in and year out. I miss the days of Chris Street and Russ Millard crashing the boards. Or heck, even Reggie Evans or Greg Brunner in the Alford days. Haven't seen it since, really.

I miss all those guys too. Don't forget Jess Settles. Those guys were strong and passionate about getting rebounds.

But, the W/L results were about the same.

Iowa Basketball.

Can never in my life remember a time I was so sick to my stomach over the basketball program.
Sad what's happened since those Greg Brunner, Jess Settles, Andre Woolridge, Dean Oliver, days.
So fun then. Now just gross. Pillow soft team, no defense, no rebounding. Just sickening really. I like many others now look forward to the women playing more than the men. Sad times indeed

This has been one of my complaints for years.
I get having a 300+ team on your schedule. Maybe even 2. But multiple seasons of having 4-5 teams that are 300+ is not OK. That's garbage scheduling.

East Texas A&M
Southern
South Dakota
Rider
Utah State
USC Upstate
New Orleans
New Hampshire

VS

Washington State
Iowa State
Utah

Utah State turned out to be quite good. And South Dakota is a usually good matchup. The P4 teams are good for the schedule.

That leaves 6 games against nobody State just to pad the resume. The early season cupcakes are ok to get the team ready but the December games should be better.

I suppose part of the problem is anyone good is going to want a home/home deal.

Doesn't Beth G. get involved in scheduling?
Fran gets all the heat but I suspect Beth has final vote on this with an eye toward bottom line.
