Feds Confiscate Intellectual Property.

I just heard part of this story on the news so maybe someone else can fill in the blanks.

Some motorcycle gang was infiltrated by FBI agents and a few gang members were arrested for various serious crimes, including some drug crimes. In addition to arresting the offenders, they also subjected the gang name and "colors" to forfeiture.

Part of me thinks this seems very wrong. You are taking intellectual property from more than merely those who offended.

Another part of me loves the idea - and can't wait until Goldman Sachs and Bank of America and other law breakers can't use their intellectual property any more.

The NCAA did this a couple of years ago. DC Assault was one of the top travel team programs in the country. Their director and founder was arrested for dealing drugs and several other felonies. He was using the program to hide the $$$ too. Anyway, The NCAA banned several coaches, the DC Assault name and colors (navy blue/yellow). They are now called DC Premiere (black and silver) with new coaches.
