Saw this on College Football Sunday on ESPNU, apparently if Navy is the highest non-power 5 team, the committee will wait until after the Army/Navy game to release their final poll, because Navy could lose that game.

In other news, Okie State is now a Top 4 team in the minds of all the "experts".

That actually is very interesting. I doubt, however, that if Navy wins the AAC, the Army-Navy game would affect the top 4 (in other words, I don't think that game would make a difference in where the Committee would rank Notre Dame). I also think that the Committee could at least have a "back-up" team identified (Boise St or Toledo, for example) that could potentially take Navy's place in the New Year's Six if they trip up vs. Army (extremely unlikely).

Of course, I'm all for complete chaos, so I hope everything is complicated as heck.

It would affect which group of 5 school gets to go to one of the "Big 6" bowls though.

I thought they had announced before the season that they weren't going to wait for Navy to play their last game? As noted, this will have a ripple effect on all of the New Year's 6 games (including the Rose). That would leave roughly 3 weeks total for people to make travel arrangements after the pairings are announced. I find it very difficult to believe that this will actually happen as stated in the OP.

Not exactly what was said.

If Navy is just in the conversation to be the power 5 of the New Year six bowls and they will put all the other teams in the bowls and hold off on the power 5 spot. If Navy win its goes to navy and if not let's say it goes to Houston. They will have an agreement with lets say the Armed forces bowl to take the other team.

If Navy is in the conversation for the playoff, then they will hold off on the final poll.

I don't know. This makes it sound different:

“If, in the committee's discretion the outcome of Army-Navy would effect Navy's seeding relative to either the top four or the Group of Five then to the extent necessary the committee would wait,” Hancock told CBS Sports.

“It's been in our consciousness since June,” Hancock said. “We would wait a week on everything.”

CFP executive director Bill Hancock clarified Navy NY6 bowl dilemma with Army-Navy game: "If Navy is the AAC champion and in the mix for the Group of 5 berth to the NY6, and the outcome of the Army/Navy game could impact Navy’s selection as the Group of 5 representative or its place in the playoff, the pairings would be delayed only to the extent necessary. That means the committee would most likely fill all the bowl slots except one on December 6 and then determine the Group of 5 team after Army/Navy on Dec 12. If Navy is in the mix for the top four, then the committee would probably delay all of its bowl assignments until December 12."

Pretty stupid opinion to hold when your supposed favorite team would benefit from some stability right now.

Thanks for the completely uncalled-for insult. If Iowa's bowl destination is held up by Navy, they'd be in the same boat as everyone else. I can't help but find it funny when a system is in place to minimize any major problems, yet that's all they get.

Maybe they need a rule that if you want to participate in the CFP and its NY6 bowls you need to complete your season by December 7th. That is the latest date the Saturday nine days after Thansgiving can ever be

Unrelated, but it is disappointing me that Army has even less of a chance against Navy this year, as has been the trend since the new millennium. The game is always fun to watch every year but the talent disparity will be more apparent this year. Keenan Reynolds will be fun to watch regardless.

I am generally light-hearted on this stuff, and maybe it is because I have 2 sons serving right now (one in the Navy), but I find this attempt at humor offensive.
