Scoring:
2014: Offense 22.6 Defense 17
2015: Offense 32.2 Defense 15.4

Rushing Offense:
2014: 140 yards per game at 3.59 ypc
Weisman 260 yds 3.33 ypc
Canzeri 153 yds 4.02 ypc

2015: 185.8 yards per game at 4.6 ypc
Canzeri 441 yds at 5 ypc
Daniels 226 yds 4.3 ypc

Passing Offense
2014: 246.8 yds per game, 63% completion, 7.05 yds per attempt and 11.1 yds per completion
(includeds 1.5 games with Beathard as QB)

2015: 209.8 yds per game, 64% completion, 7.9 yds per attempt and 12.2 yds per completion

Rushing D:
2014: 93.2 yds per game
2015: 84.4 yds per game

Passing D:
2014: 217.2 yds per game
2015: 215.4 yds per game.

Rushing offense is way better than last year and in the passing game yards per attempt and yards per completion have gone up about 1 yard each. The first five games this year are a little more difficult in that Wisconsin replaces Purdue and Iowa played at ISU who is is improved from last year. Also of note I think they have 4 more sacks and I think scoring in the red zone has improved as well punting and punt return.

It seems Iowa has improved, through the first 5 games anyway, in just about every area. That's really just a testament to the job both the players AND...wait for it....the coaching staff have done, especially in the off season at turning things around.

I agree though that the biggest difference has been the improvements in the running game. Didn't even need to read the rest. When you make a jump like that, with what Iowa likes to do on offense, we're going to be more successful.

Let's just hope they can continue to progress each and every week and see how far we can take this thing!

To complement your numbers, I decided to tally the linebacker productivity. Through the first 5 games:

2014 LBs: 87 tackles, 7 TFLs

2015 LBs: 112 tackles, 11.5 TFLs

This tells me that the '15 LBs are swarming the ball more. They're also reacting more quickly, thereby allow them to get contact behind the line of scrimmage more often.

I forgot to remark, these numbers are potentially all the more impressive given that the '14 DL featured 3 returning starters, plus Hardy who had prior starting experience, and plus Meier who "emerged" that year as the new DE opposite Ott.

In contrast, given Ott's limited snaps this year - the LBs have been playing A LOT of snaps behind a DL that has featured 3 "newer" faces (Johnson, Bazata, and Hesse) plus one undersized, hardened veteran (Meier).

This tells me that BOTH the LBs have improved AND the DL is doing a surprisingly decent job of keeping the LBs clean.
