first real snowfall of the year

I don’t miss Iowa winters. March is usually not great weather in Iowa either. Hell, April is pretty sketch most years.
January and February suck. By the time March rolls around even with bad weather it feels like there's a light at the end of the tunnel with a sprinkling of warmer days to let me know spring is not far off.

It's a weird storm, it's basically 4-5 counties from north to south, and it follows a line along I-80

They are so calm the last few years it's nothing like it used to be. I'm in the Cedar Rapids area and have barely had any snow to clear the last 3 years. Kind of crazy.
We got 27” of snow last January in the DM metro with cold weather then it became unseasonably warm the rest of the winter with February being a precursor to spring that was warm and wet. I’ll take that again this year!

In the Chicago area. Haven't had to shovel yet this year and it doesn't look like the forecast shows enough to shovel over the next 2 weeks. It's a no snow winter so far.

Yeah your right we got about 9 inches last year to start January and then that was pretty much it.

I’m in far NE Iowa, and we had dandelions blooming into February. Even had a volunteer pea plant start to sprout in February. Last winter was very unusual.
Twins and north over to GB, Wi last year had zero snow and were opening golf course in mid to late February. 2022 they had record snows and then that stupid April warmup that melted it all in a day. We were lucky we didn't lose everything in the flooding that occurred after.

In the slot for this one, we'll end up with 2-3" when its done in an hour.

Meh...Burlington, Ottumwa, etc? Yeah, gonna get some snow. Unless the models miss big time to the south, I doubt anybody above I80 is going to get much if anything.

The models could be wrong, but I doubt if wrong they'll be off by all that much. I70 north to the Missouri border though? there's some truth to the fear porn they're no doubt getting pummeled with.

We are supposed to get hammered here in KC. Ice anywhere from 0.2-0.4" and then 6-12'' of snow on top of that with 35 mph winds. We haven't had one like this in a long time. Should be fun!

Getting slick here in KC. Light freezing rain for the last couple hours. Lots of snow coming. Been salting properties all day.

I'm supposed to fly to Raleigh on Monday. They're predicting rain at RDU, but not so far to the north they're predicting several inches of snow and ice. It wouldn't take much of a model wobble to change that outlook.

what really sucks is the snow will stick around for a while, temperatures predicted well below freezing until later in January
