I'm pretty sure this came out of Big 10 media days from the players and/or Fitz, but we will absolutely get their best shot Saturday. Combine the 20 years of Fitz hate toward Iowa with the last two seasons of Purple Kitten beatdowns and this is where we are at. With MeerKat out, NW will really blitz and put pressure on the Iowa WRs. I HOPE we install some schemes to torch pressure, be it screens, draws, flares, slants, etc. You know they will really test our WRs and pressure CJ.

There were some very specific comments at Big Ten Media days from players and Fitz about the Iowa game and they said that performance would not happen again.

Pre-game chatter and performance guarantees like this by Fitzgerald and his players are useful for about 2 snaps. Then the respective game plans take over and what happens or doesn't happen the next 59 minutes depends, in large part, how well the players execute the calls and how adept the coaches are at adjusting to what is happening on the field.

I don't know what "very specific" comments you are referring to but it is bad coaching to provide extra motivation to an opponent. Ferentz never makes this mistake.

But then I wonder if the spawn of kirk also circles these super bowls. Have we lost to either isu or nu with young-F on the sidelines?

Don't have the quotes but remember watching BTN and media days and during player panels/Fitz's presser this came up. Yeah, agree about that emotion, etc only lasting for a few plays then you have to execute the gameplan.

Remember when they brought in all of those hype people that hated Iowa last year to remember their Rose Bowl appearance 20 years ago? Yeah, that didn't really work out last time either.

Yep, they'll be pumped like the likes of A NDSU for this one.. I gotta believe that if given the chance Fitz would run it up on us...

Well, they had it circled the last two years and got destroyed.

It will be a tough game, but the good guys will win. Jerminic is my pick to click.

Has Lil Patty Fitz-Fitz's team scored more than 25 points in the past 2 years? Weakest O in the B1G two years in a row.

The only thing he'll be running up is the bill from his therapist after the Hawks pound him for the third year in a row.

Just curious.....what, in the last 2 games, has Iowa done that makes you think they will pound NW on Saturday?

Yeah that was great. See the Iowa beat down in person.

Yes he does have this game circled. He can't forgive Iowa for breaking his leg when he played lb at NWestern.

When has past performance ever Guaranteed anything the following week?

We looked suspect last year against Illinois last year before we beat NW like a drum more injured than we are now.

Think we lost in 2014 before that beat down.

It's a prediction not a guarantee.

Seems like everyone has the Hawk game "circled". There's quite a bit of angst about Iowa's performance of all caliber of opponents, perhaps Iowa should start circling games as well?

Just recounting the words of the UN AD from December, 2015....

'Lil Patty Fitz'?! Did you ever see that man play?

Apologize, man; in case you ever meet him in person.

Go Hawks!

I think Fitz has them all circled these days. He needs wins and where is he going to get them from? There are easier pickings than coming to Iowa City and beating the Hawks. If anyone needs to have this mofo circled, it's KF because it's a preventable disaster if he can wake things up.

Well then maybe their opponents should knock it the f*** off and do a better job of beating Ohio state instead.

Iowa would, we just never seem to play them anymore.....

LOL, little baby boy still crying into his teddy bear at night over missing the Rose Bowl due to those mean ol' hawks bweaking his wittle weg.
Just ask anyone who's ever played for him. They always have a box of tissues in the locker room for him to wipe his eyes with before the start of the Iowa game.

I may not understand what you're trying to say here... But if you think Iowa would beat Ohio State, I disagree.

Whoa.... where is this coming from?

Fitz is a good coach and was a pretty darn good player back in the day. Does he have a penchant for wanting to beat Iowa? Sure he does. He is the coach of another team in the same division of the same conference. Trying to belittle him here as a result of an injury that occurred during a game is uncalled for - particularly given what Iowa has experienced on the injury front over the last few days and from last season.

There are plenty of examples of former NW players that would still run through a brick wall for Pat Fitzgerald. To claim otherwise is baseless.

There are a number of teams that have good reason to "circle" the Iowa game. To name a few:

jNW - Their head coach was knocked out for the season vs Iowa and the extra attention he gives for the Iowa game has been confirmed by jNW players.

Minny - there's been bad blood between the programs going back to the early 20th century....there's a reason the two teams did not play for awhile back then. Add in us tearing down their goal posts and they truly do hate Iowa.

ISU - years of embarrassing beat downs, in state rivalry, being a major university in the "Hawkeye state"...all add up to bitter feelings towards Iowa.

I fully expect the same scenario that was in play with NDSU (sandbag gedanken against first two opponents, while preparing for Iowa) is also in play for this game.

It's amazing that someone is willing to take multiple losses to prepare for one game.

Fitz hatred is strong. Beat them and make his plan backfire, and he'll quit doing it.

He ran his mouth off about his hate for Iowa in the locker room and it got out. Yeah he hates Iowa bad!

Not sure that distinguishes him from several other coaches in the Big Ten. Iowa is an easy team to shoot at.... smallest public university from now one of the least populated (read: thought to be entirely rural, agricultural area) that was a relative pioneer in breaking down the barrier of having just one or two teams succeed in the league.

It comes and goes somewhat with the territory.

5, his players have openly admitted he hates Iowa more than anybody else. It is common knowledge. At least I thought it was.

He does NOT need wins. That man is more to NW than KF/HF have ever been to Iowa.

*BTW this is a sad thing*

I live in Evanston. Fitz hates the Hawks! He would rather beat them than anybody. Need the Hawks to kill them this weekend. I will be at the game.

Look at the body of work. 45-21 MiamiO, 42-3 ISU. Those are poundings, especially considering the KF tendency to take his foot of the gas with a lead. Now granted, it's unclear just how bad those teams were, but still shows Iowa is capable of pounding someone if the motivation is just right.
