He worked in articulate and monkey in the same statement
Ron DeSantis-

“Florida elections are always competitive, and this is a guy who, although he is much too liberal for Florida, he has huge problems with how he’s governed Tallahassee, he is an articulate spokesman for those far left views,” DeSantis said Wednesday morning. “The last thing we need to do is to monkey this up by trying to embrace a socialist agenda.”

Another black politician - run for your lives!

Listened to it...don’t think he said it with racial intent.
If one isn't smart enough today to know that you cannot say "monkey" when the issue is a black person, then one isn't smart enough... oh, wait... I forgot about our president. Never mind.

Hmmm....when someone is talking off the cuff I tend to give folks a break...listening to him it was pretty obvious there was no I’ll intent. 20 years ago nobody even blinks at this...nowadays?...it’s unfortunate. Just think “outrage” directed at this is contrived and overblown.

Ron DeSantis helps run a Tea Party Facebook group that promotes racism and ‘deep state’ conspiracies

American Ledger — a corruption watchdog news site — reported Wednesday that DeSantis is one of 52 administrators and moderators for the “Tea Party” Facebook group that is also co-run by failed Arizona Senate candidate Kelli Ward.

The GOP candidate’s participation in the large administrator pool was first revealed on Tuesday by Media Matters extremism researcher Natalie Martinez, who posted screenshots of a string of DeSantis campaign posts in the group. She later learned that another administrator named the candidate as one of the group’s admins.

A writer for the Infowars-tied Central Florida Post (http://bit.ly/2MPEcV4) has been spamming a racist, conspiracy Facebook group (http://mm4a.org/Zjw) with Ron DeSantis campaign posts. DeSantis appears to be an admin of this group, along with Kelli Ward & Corey Stewart. pic.twitter.com/Sajs2g3ZnY

The “Tea Party” group has nearly 95,000 members, the Ledger reported. In the past, group members have posted about the “ghetto scum” that is Black Lives Matter and made fun of the Parkland massacre survivors.

“One member believed the violent far-right rally of neo-Nazis and white supremacists in Charlottesville, Va., in August 2017 was a hoax,” the report noted, “writing in a post liked by 1,600 users that the rally was ‘orchestrated by the left’ to ‘destroy America.'”

Ward and her husband Michael were revealed to be administrators of the group in early July by Media Matters. Michael Ward was known to share posts from the candidate’s (verified) Facebook page and once called John McCain a “strong supporter of the Muslim Brotherhood.”

After winning the GOP gubernatorial primary a day prior, DeSantis made headlines Wednesday after saying people who voted for his Democratic opponent — Tallahassee mayor Andrew Gillum — would “monkey up” the state.

Dang. The other day the coffee pot malfunctioned and I said to my wife let me monkey with it.

I see this thread and think oh my that must be some term from the past that I shouldn't be using. Even looking at webster's I could not find it, so I am ok now. They used the example monkey with the lawnmower those racist bastards.

I agree... especially those that have to frequently speak publicly. I just think there are some verboten phrases... this being one.
I imagine if he could have a do over he'd take it. Just think this has been way overblown.

Getting tired of folks being taken apart for one mistake or poor choice of words.

We've seen this from both sides....Cuomo's "America was never that great".....

Just seems petty and shallow to me. Intent and context has to be taken into account.

Too much to ask for nowadays I guess...

Agreed.

Is your coffee pot human? Wow, that's cool.

Is it too much to ask that people not use the term “monkey” when referring to AAs?

You would be wrong. Do you understand the term 'dog whistle'? This was deliberate.

Watching Fox and Friends and they just did a fair and balanced segment on this. Said people are getting outraged. Then preceded to say it wasn't racist and then read 3 tweets from random people saying they didn't think it was meant to be racist.

What I heard was "don't monkey around with what been working" to paraphrase....not an uncommon use of the word. He used it as a verb....not a noun. He was obviously referring to his "socialist agenda".

I don't agree with the guy but this whole hubbub is just folks looking to be offended and searching for a "gotcha" moment. Not a fan.

There is zero chance a Republican candidate for governor of Florida is intentionally and even strategically using a racist term.

I know people can’t miss a chance to pylon, but nobody is dumb enough and racist enough to think it will help their political campaign by intentionally using racist insults.

Really? After everything we've witnessed from the GOP recently there's ZERO chance.
