Flo 184 Predictions

More on this on FRL. The lads were going through some mental gymnastics to get Bo to beating Dean as in "Imagine if Bo didn't lose those two matches and won 174, would it be that crazy to pick him?" Seriously. Also, guys generally get worse in their 5th year according to the lads.

When Nate Jackson beats Bo, Bo was the better wrestler who got beat in a "weird" match and his NCAA match with Martin was an outlier (my words) because Bo had beat him so much. With Dean, he "just takes some losses"...Gabe Dean has lost six matches in his career: Boyd (AA) 2016, Zillmer (AA) and Meeks (AA) 2015, Sheptock (2XAA) and Ed Ruth (An all timer) twice in 2014. He also beat Ed Ruth once.

For the past two years, everybody has talked about 184 being such a meat grinder as the toughest weight in the country (including Flo) and the guy who has come out of it twice on top is picked second to a guy who got beat in the finals by a true freshman in the second or third weakest weight in college. Welp...

Is this a knock on Bo? Nope. I'm a big fan of Bo and he would be my pick over the other Bo at 174 this year. Could he beat Dean? Sure. But c'mon.
Don't forget Nate Jackson coming within an eyelash of "magically" beating Bo in the NCAA semis. I'm still not sure how he didn't manage to finish that takedown.

Just listened to the show too, and CP is really going out of his way to pick Bo to win. It is simply not logical. I've typically defended CP and his picks. Even the Guillibon ranking last year could be justified IMO. This one simply makes no sense.

He has a big time hard on for Cael and PSU guys. Which is understandable for Retherford/Nolf. Those guys are awesome. Bo is not on the level of the other two. Bo took 2nd last year and had 2 losses at a weak weight. Dean is a 2 time NCAA champion with better wins, and more dominant in terms of bonus points. Indefensible.

Did CP and Willie purposely not mention Dean and Martin were wrestling at the all star classic? One other take away from that show would be if they wanna see these HS kids they're talking about more why not extend HS coverage? Willie mentioned something along the lines of fans wanting to see these guys and asking yianni why wrestle his HS season. That can coincide with why would Snyder continue to wrestle in college. For 1 you're helping your team win sectional and state titles. And 2 it gives you a chance to fulfill dreams and or make history. There's only 1 5x state champion in the history of NY wrestling and that's Troy Nickerson. Yianni most likely will be the second come February. Being in NY I'm fortunate as a fan to be able to watch guys like Yianni, Vito, Jacori Teemer, Frankie Gissandener, and Adam Busiello compete as I'm sure a guy like Chief can say the same in regards to RBY. They could cover some big dual meets or tournaments in these kids States if they want to see them wrestle more

Just my take, and I acknowledge beforehand I wear blue and white glasses.

Bo is much bigger this year compared to last season and I have no doubt he has the horsepower necessary to wrestle with the best at this weight.

Dean is a stud and does like to physically dominate and win with a methical approach and a couple explosive moves for offensive points.

Assuming they meet I believe it comes down to what kind of match do they wrestle. A slow, head butting bull match obviously favors Dean. If Bo initiates a lot of wrestling action it favors Bo.

Another opinion. I think Martin is going to be a very tough out for anybody including Bo and Dean.

I would pretty much beat a paycheck on Dean. Other than Snyder, Cox, or Rutherford I would say he's #4 as a lock as a Champ!

Locks in order:
1. Snyder
2. Cox
3. Rutherford
4. Dean
5. Gilman
6. IMart
7. Nolf
8. Clark
9. Epperly
10. McKenna

I'm right with you until 9 and 10. I hope you're right about McKenna over Heil.

I think you guys are forgetting about a guy that wrestles for Iowa State. Dowery, I think it is, the guy looks pretty good. Lots of good stuff being said about him on the other boards wrestling wise, anyway. I still favor brooks, nickal, mcCutcheon over him. Probably 6-9. Still pretty good wrestler imo.

Let's see how he holds the weight all year. I agree he is a talent.

The issue is that most of those comments are by his dad.

He's pretty good, though.

Pretty good list. I would slide Nolf in at 4. He's a bonus point machine and there is really only 2 guys at his weight that have a chance to slow him down.

No love for SE Polk, Miklus? A 2x AA, with wins over several guys that are picked ahead of him. Doubt he finishes off the podium this year. He has the ability to finish 4-8...like the other 7-8 guys.

The problem is, the weight is soooo deep that a couple "someone really good"s have to get left off the AA list. Anyone predicting this weight will be luck to get 6 of the 8 AA's correct!
