Florida One Step Closer to Banning Minors from Social Media: Florida House Approves Social Media Ban For Minors

My kids can't buy beer or alcohol, tobacco products, go to R rated movies, buy pornography, go to bars or strip clubs, etc. because they are minors. We put restrictions on minors all the time in this country to protect them from harmful things. Social media is turning out to be a cesspool of harm. People who care about children should not be upset with laws like this.
Who buys porn… shit is free all over the interwebs.

Shouldn't this be up to the parents? It isn't about the children. It's about control. Theocratic control and control of any space where minors can make up their own minds of whether they fall on red and blue topics. Clearly the Reds are losing out when accurate information is consumed. Social media sites should just shut off any request coming from Florida.

It should be up to the parents for sure.

That said, it sure would be easier to tell my kids they can't be on social media if it were illegal, lol.

I also think it would very positive for the kids...

If it could be done without government overreach I'd be for it.

It’s wrecking the next generation. Not sure what we do about that
1) parents can be a parent.
2) set an example. You cant get pissed off at the kids for being on social media when rheir parents are spending all of their free time scrolling.

Republicans are for parental rights except when they aren’t.

Which the Rs started in this case. You guys are so lazy. Promises of immigration, healthcare, and infrastructure never materialize, so you have to conjure up stuff like this.
He’ll never figure this out. Nothing they do is about our personal freedoms.

Hilarious some of you guys think this is even remotely enforceable - especially at an individual state level. Lulz.

The side eye smirks / laughs of genz and millennial staffers when old fart Charlie (or whatever his name is) started crafting this bill would have been great to watch.

Fair enough….
I deleted my social media accounts long ago. deleted my original Facebook account 10 years ago. I bought into this “build your brand crap” from a marketing class i was in 4 years ago and got back on fb. Deleted it 4 months later

I tire of people bitching about how social media is destroying society and is harmful to kids blah blah blah, yet they continue to scroll, shitpost, attempt to be witty (most fail), trauma dump, and share every irrelevant part of their day while ignoring their kids.

People arent “keeping up” with anybody. they are stalking old acquaintances as the depth of their “keeping up” is liking or commenting on posts.

Honestly I would support a full ban for all ages.

The older generations are almost worse on it.

As long as they ban boomers too. That would solve a lot of problems in this country.

Something like "boomers cannot sign up for social media accounts, or internet service without written approval of their adult children"
