Performance of the week

Quarterback Peyton Mansell had another big game on Friday as he was 10/13 passing for 273 yards and 5 touchdowns in Belton's 56-21 win over Copperas Cove. Mansell also had 8 carries for 79 yards and 1 touchdown on the ground in the game.

Through 10 games, Mansell is 158/221 passing (71.5%) for 2,169 yards with 30 touchdowns and 6 interceptions. On the ground, he has 116 carries for 914 yards and 13 touchdowns for Belton (7-3).

Other notable performances

Wide receiver Beau Corrales had a big game on Friday with 11 catches for 167 yards and a pair of touchdown in Georgetown's 37-28 win over Pflugerville Connally. Through 10 games, Corrales has 80 catches for 1,057 yards and 14 touchdowns for Georgetown (8-2).

Cornerback Josh Turner had 4 tackles and 2 pass breakups on defense and added a rushing touchdown on offense as American Heritage beat St. John Paul II Academy by a score of 53-24 on Friday. In 9 games, Turner had 42 tackles and 16 pass breakups for American Heritage (2-7).

Tight end Jacob Coons had 5 catches for 49 yards on offense and 1 sack on defense, but saw his senior season come to an end on Friday after Solon's 28-14 loss to Pella. In 10 games, Coons had 29 catches for 479 yards and 5 touchdowns for Solon (9-2).

Running back Ivory Kelly-Martin was held to just 33 yards rushing as Oswego East lost to defending state champion Loyola 22-3 on Saturday. In 10 games, Kelly-Martin had 170 carries for 1,369 yards and 22 touchdowns for Oswego East (9-2).

Wide receiver Gavin Holmes had 3 catches for 86 yards and 2 touchdowns in Justin Northwest's 57-11 win over Azle on Friday. Through 10 games, Holmes has 71 catches for 1,407 yards and 15 touchdowns this season for Justin Northwest (9-1).

Lineman Tristan Wirfs had a blocked punt that he scooped up and returned 20 yards for a touchdown in Mount Vernon's 42-32 playoff win over Williamsburg on Friday night. Offensively, Wirfs helped Mount Vernon (8-2) pile up 304 rushing yards in the game.

A.J. Epenesa pressured the quarterback, forcing an interception on the first possession of the second half to turn things around for Edwardsville as they came from behind to beat Oswego 31-14 Saturday. Through 11 games, Epenesa has 36 tackles, 11 TFL, and 2 sacks for Edwardsville (10-1).

Djimon Colbert had 4 tackles and 1 interception as Bishop Miege beat Piper 64-0 on Friday night. Through 10 games, Colbert has 31 tackles, 10 pass breakups, and 2 interceptions for Bishop Miege (9-1).

Camron Harrell had an interception on defense, but top seeded Bradley-Bourbonnais struggled to get much going offensively as Plainfield North upset them 49-20 on Saturday. Bradley-Bourbonnais finishes the season with a 10-1 record.

Wide receiver Brandon Smith finished with 10 catches for 101 yards and 2 touchdowns as Lake Cormorant beat Oxford 31-20 on Friday. Through 12 games, Smith has 68 catches for 1,382 yards and 18 touchdowns for Lake Cormorant (8-4).

Matt Hankins saw his senior season come to an end after Flower Mound Marcus lost to Euless Trinity by a score of 35-17 on Thursday night. In 10 games, Hankins had 34 tackles and 13 pass breakups for Marcus (5-5).

Coy Kirkpatrick's Madrid team was held to just 228 total yards as they fell to Van Meter 28-7 in the Class 1A quarterfinals on Friday. Madrid finishes the season with a 9-2 record this year.

Offensive lineman Mark Kallenberger led Bettendorf upfront all season as they finished with over 2,500 yards on the ground offensively on their way to to a 7-3 record and playoff appearance in Class 4A this year.

Defensive end Levi Duwa missed the last part of the season after having foot surgery on October 5. Appearing in 6 games, Duwa had 39 tackles, 10 TFL, and 3.5 sacks on defense and 13 catches for 128 yards and 2 touchdowns on offense for Mid-Prairie (5-4).

I'm pumped about the recievers we will be bringing in. These guys have put up very solid numbers! Hope to have all the pieces in place the next few years to be able to fully utilize there talent. I wonder who plays as a true freshman?
