Football board is a cesspool.

It seems many on the Football Board expected Iowa to win last night. Really?
No, not that. They prob expected the O to do a little better and they expected the refs to do a little better.

Losing is one thing. Losing by 26 with an a decent D performance, but the O and ST shitting the beds and the refs giving Michigan gifts has made the board pretty salty.

It should be in total meltdown. That was a total meltdown game.

Oh I know. It's just unbelievable sometimes how bad it gets. It's pretty entertaining to a point.

I do enjoy the separated at birth posts every week although they're a lot better when we win. They might not even do one this week or if they do it won't be that good.
Not enough politics for you guys lol.......

Iowa hitting the portal for anyone besides Proctor?
Prob not unless anyone shows interest in Iowa.

With all the guys coming back, Iowa is like 7 or 8 players over scholarship, so if anything they're prob banking on a bunch of guys to hit the portal in the spring.

The Portal most likely wouldn’t help the OL anyway. IMO , it’s all about coaching to improve the consistency of the OL.

I also went over to gauge the reaction to Lester. There is a poster that would fit in well here - but I hope doesn't make their way - high frequency posting, a bit of a Joes Place vibe, insufferable but does seem effective if that's his goal.

I think it can help in instances like last year where there was no skill and no depth. Bringing in Feth gave some depth and competition, and he actually helped quite a bit.

Proctor is coming in through the portal as well and will help immediately.

Otherwise, unless there is a skill position room that is absolute dogshit (WRs), no one in the portal is going to be better than who is already here.

Normally a new O/C will be given a year to set up the new offense. Kind of the situation that Greg Davis had in 2012 but the honeymoon already appears to be over for Lester. Albeit he is fortunate to have to follow one of the lower benchmarks in the history of college football.

I agree that he isn't going to get a honeymoon period but I don't necessarily think that is an "unfair" situation for him. There are several factors in his favor. First, with the addition of Proctor and if Cade can stay healthy the cupboard isn't exactly bare. I believe they do have a lot returning on the offensive line and the issue last season didn't seem so much like they weren't physically able to do the job but they weren't sure what they were supposed to be doing out there. Maybe they are just too dumb to do it, but making sure players don't miss assignments should be the priority. The defense next year has a good shot at being even better than it was last year. Even just a marginal improvement with the offense next year and Iowa is a serious playoff team contender. A significant improvement on offense next year and Iowa is a serious National Championship contender. The situation demands that the offense comes out strong next year because the window isn't as open in 2026 as it can be next year.

I admit, I'm not excited about the Lester pick. I wanted Johns. However, the choice has been made so I'm going to give Lester every chance to prove himself. We weren't there for the interview process. Maybe Lester had a realistic plan to innovate and develop players. Maybe he was able to explain how he would recruit and develop players better than Johns. Kirk has been at crossroads before where he needed to make changes and he did that every time. I feel he's earned the benefit of the doubt here. However, if next year we have offensive production comparable to the last 3 years we will have a problem. Unless we see significant improvement as the season goes along it might be time to suggest retiring. On the other hand, if there is significant improvement in the offense as the season progresses their numbers will be significantly better than the offense was last season.

Going to need some of last years freshmen receivers to really step up. They at least look the part. Instead of some of the guys they’ve been using in the 2 deeps previously. I’m not sure how Iowa can really appeal to a couple stud transfer WR’s. The last two decent ones Iowa had didn’t get the ball Jones and Bruce.

the WR room is bare AF. Either they've been injured (Bostick, Johnson), they haven't really panned out (Vines), they've either left the program willingly (Jones, Johson, Bruce, Brecht, Vines), there is just nothing there to develop.

They need to get people in and develop them and keep them. Once they can prove there will be WR production, then they can sell portal studs to come to Iowa.

You would have to be either desperate for a D1 roster spot or an absolute lunatic to transfer to Iowa as a WR right now.

Brecht is a fast baseball player. Saw most everything I need to see from him vs one of the lower level teams they played his freshmen year. I thought Keegan Johnson had potential. Same with Bruce, but seemed to have a case of the yips. Thinking instead of playing.

No, you don't want him over here. He is bad, even by off topic standards.
