Football on a baseball field

Iowa didn't lose money going to the Rose. Impossible.
Look it up. They lost money. Iowa spent a fortune taking the team, coaches and families, band, admins and god knows who else all the way to Cali for over a week. Remember they don't get the Bowl payout of 15 -18 million or whatever it was. That money goes to the conference and is split among the 14 teams. Its assures financial security for all conference members, but individual members, don't get the one year financial windfall from a top level bowl.

People constantly bitching about people constantly bitching is fascist and stale. You have the ability to "ignore" every member that you find to be constantly bitching. But I guess you'd rather bitch. Welcome to the club.
Right back at ya..........

Back to the topic: football games in baseball stadiums.
In multi-purpose stadiums, it can work. But Yankee Stadium's layout means the large majority of seats are much further away from the field than in normal football games. And the end zones are hazardous in some points because of the close proximity of seating to the playing field. As a paying fan, I wouldn't want to invest many dollars in a ticket.

There is not one seat in this photo I would consider "great" and only a handful I would consider "good." If you are on the 50 yard line and the top dexk its going to be like watching ants run around. Yeeesh

The conference covers expenses up to a predetermined amount. Add in the APR of around 300 grand and that more than covers expenses. With bowl payouts and playoff money sharing every B1G team will get a shitload of money. No one loses money playing in a bowl.

That's not true. I'm not sure about the Rose Bowl but teams do and have lost money playing in a Bowl game.

I totally see what you are saying but bowls make too much money. I could see an 8 team playoff with bowls.

However, I would be fine with that if we cut the other bowl games down to 30. Must have a 7-5 record or better to play.
You can still have 16 teams and bowl games for everyone else. But yes it' time to cut down on bowls and have the big 4 bowls on a rotation for the National Championship site.

An average team doesn't deserve a bowl game. KF doesn't deserve a bonus for an average season. I prefer the assumption that a great season is rewarded with a bowl game. An 8 win season should be minimum.
Give him credit for having a great agent and a yes man for an AD.$500,000 for a third rate bowl game is.......................................

Exactly. His agent did his job; get the client the best deal you can.

The AD did not do his job, which is in no way surprising given the "management" that he's demonstrated.

That's not the best way to look at it. If Iowa only got a portion of the rose bowl payout, the aggregate payout from all B1G bowls should be viewed when comparing income to expenses. It'd be nearly impossible for a B1G school to lose money on participating in a bowl when putting it up against the aggregate income from all bowls that is paid out to each school

What's the difference in payouts for a B1G bowl participant vs a non bowling B1G team?

For example, Iowa and Nebraska. Will the only difference in income they'll receive from the bowl be the extra $ Iowa gets to cover Pinstripe travel expenses?

Really don't think I was bitching, just pointing out again how irrational concerns about his contract are, when taken in context of college football coaches and what they make, and contracts structured. If I seem to be fascist or stale for bitching about the bitchers as you claim, what does that make someone who bitches about someone bitching about other bitches?

That is incorrect. Teams do lose money on some of these bowl trips. Your forgeting that teams that don't play in a bowl get a share as well. If Iowa plays in the Rose the payout maybe 15 mil, but Iowa only gets around 1.2 mil plus some expense money from that game. This year will be one where some BIG schools will possibly lose money. Without a team in the playoff the BIG teams were probably shifted down some in the bowl pecking order, and the overall pool of $ will be smaller.

I tried to watch the Utah vs. West Virginia game earlier today. Tried. Couldn't make it out of the 1st quarter. If you're a fan of Utah or West Virginia I'm sure it's a great bowl game. I couldn't help but think, though, that most people will feel the same about Iowa vs. Boston College. I'll be watching because I'm an Iowa fan, but that's the only reason. I wouldn't expect anyone besides BC or Iowa fans to watch. Maybe some B10 West fans just because of familiarity.

I've tried to watch a number of other games, but there was only one that kept my attention until the finish: Army vs. San Diego State. The only reason I even bothered to tune into that game was because I wanted to if Rashad Penny deserved the hype he'd been getting. Yeah, he deserved it. That guy is every bit as impressive as Saquan Barkley. He might be a little faster, too.

But outside of the very few rare gems like SDSU vs. Army, the real bowls don't start until Friday night when Ohio State plays against USC.

You mean you missed the great NIU game where they went for the fake punt from their own ten yd line... there have been several good bowl games so far. If it’s football it’s good....

Just win today and all the bitching no matter the reason largely subsides.

Lose...ofmg this place will be a cesspool.

I don't recall a bowl game I have ever had so little juice going in yet wanted them to win so badly. Maybe the California/Alamo Bowl comes close.

I badly want a "happy flight" ending here. The off-season will be so much more enjoyable and hopeful for 2018.

Hey, its NY City, a great destination, although expensive. Its a chance to get a quality win against an evenly matched (at least apparently so) opponent. Get an 8th win. Build on a good recruiting class by maybe impressing some potential HS recruits that have not seen us play.

Enjoy it, the last Hawkeye football for nine months.
