For $1.5M, Penn St QB Beau Pribula has Committed to Missouri after Visiting IOWA Wed, Dec 18. Will Iowa add a 6th QB to the Roster?

I know everyone ignores 2020 because pandemic, but Iowa finished 2nd in the B1G in scoring. A year with only conference games.

With Spencer Petras starting! BF was the OC!

No there isn't and you shot your own argument down when you commented on how the offense ran better after Cade got replaced. The quality of your QB is far and away the most important element of the passing game. It is far and away the most important position in football. You can't have a consistently good passing game without high level QB play. Why do you think Lester is offering QB's in the portal if he thought he had what it takes today? He doesn't.
Not sure I would agree with this. Cade (maybe still injured) was a good QB at Michigan. Michigan had an elite offensive line, the same has been said for iowa teams, that 2020 team is a great example of that. 2009, Stanzi's stats were actually fairly underwhelming, but that line was great. I think a great QB can mask a middling OL.

Not here to argue just trying to make the point that I think we sit ok if we don't add another QB. Lester has said publicly that he loves the portal and I think enjoys dipping his hand in it. This Penn State QB becoming available I think came as a surprise. Lester going after him doesn't necessarily mean he doesn't feel happy with what he has. He will pursue the opportunity and take things from there.

I don't, I will stand by the most important part of your offense is a productive line. Iowa was lucky this year to have a generational RB, I wasn't sold on the OL this year at all. Imagine how much more productive Raiola would have been this year with a line. That is why Debbie sucks, they have a crapload of skill players, the #1 QB recruit, and yet a sack at the end of the game leads to a fumble and a L.

Ok. Agree to disagree. He's not doing it for fun. He's doing it because he's trying to improve a less than stellar QB room, as he should be.

Stratton and sully will prolly go in spring if Pribula goes to Iowa… but my gut is saying Missouri gets him.
You're probably right about Stratton, but I would hope that we could keep B Sully, as he has the most experience out of everyone, would still have a good shot at being QB1 or at least having a lot of playing time, and I really don't want to start from scratch at QB for like the 3rd straight season. Edit - Iowa's offense also looked its best in years while he played and was healthy.

I'm just really frickin' glad to be done forever discussing Cade and his 2-3 immediate predecessors....

I was basing it off the fact I think if we bring in a transfer that seems as good as pribula, they would beat out Sully and he leaves in the next portal window. But I like Sully, if we don’t land pribula I won’t lose any sleep over it.
Mostly wanna land a CB one offensive and one defensive tackle and a solid WR. Pribula would just make it even better

Ok. The Iowa oline wasn't close to the number one reason that Iowa had the worst passing game in the country, but everyone is entitled to an opinion.

Oh that is 100% on the OC and the WR coach, it is truly that simple, but you don't need and elite or even great QB to have a productive passing game if you have a great OL.

Do you consider Nate Stanley to be in the same conversation as Chuck Long, Brad Banks, Chuck Hartlieb, CJ Beathard, hell even Drew Tate?
I'm not even sure of what point you're trying to make at this point. Nate Stanley was light years better than any QB on the Iowa roster since he left and the Iowa passing game cratered. Are you going to disagree with that as well?

The point is that Nate Stanley was light years ahead of any QB iowa has had due to two factors, probably the most elite skill position players Iowa has had, and a monster OL. Both of which have been missing from anything since 2020.

So nothing to do with the enormous gap in skill between him and all of the successors? I think you're trying too hard here. It's bordering on ludicrous.

I will 1 million times over state, I don't think if Brian had Caleb Williams, the offense would have been productive.

I think (hope) that Lester would be able to talk Sully into staying instead of transferring a second time, since he would likely still have an important role on the team (as opposed to Stratton - if Pribula comes in, Jackson has no future here, and has proven enough worth that he might be able to transfer to a lower-level P4 team and compete for a starting job for a few years). I want our QB room to be as strong as possible, but I would hate losing the QB that has looked best behind center for Iowa post-COVID, and who would have by far the most experience playing P2 ball.

Your guess is as good as mine on any of this, but Brown was the 48th ranked QB in the portal by 247, and I'm sure there are a good number of QB's ranked above him that won't find a landing spot at a P4 school making his selection for anything other than depth a little bit curious. He had to know that this was going to be a competitive situation shaping up.

It will be interesting to see how we get to the final 105 man roster.

I don't even know how it works; if they have to, do they cut players? Ie, lets say they get another QB, and they are over 105; they might have to make cuts if the players they no longer want (or can keep) don't get the hint.

Brian was shitty. The oline was shitty. The receivers were shitty. The QB's were shitty. Fix everything and keep your shitty QB's and guess what. The offense is still shitty. Maybe not AS shitty, but still shitty for sure.

They cut walk on players, once again, you cannot cut scholarship players.

You stated the QB is the most important factor to the passing game. I am stating that a mid QB can look great behind a great Oline, while a great QB can look mid behind a trash line. I will stand by that being the most important factor to a fully functional offense. I think the numbers Cade put up at Michigan point to that.

My understanding is that there’s a somewhat of a mini qb comp between Sullivan and stratton, but that Sullivan is expected to win that. Idk that anyone has said anything beyond that. Which is correct imo - would look pretty discouraging if they anoint Sullivan as QB1 and not have a comp in the spring based on current circumstances. Honestly, I’d still like to see Stratton to get bowl snaps as well. Considering both have limited playing time I’m not sure how anyone can say which of the two is better.

Hank was told by Lester that he would be in the mix for the QB1 job

I wonder how many QBs Iowa will have at the end on the 105 man roster. 5?

It is. End of story. Is it the ONLY important element? Of course not. It's a team game. Is it THE most important element? Absolutely and I'm done with this ridiculous discussion.

Ironically, scholarship players can leave whenever they want but we can't cut them whenever we want. ;)
What's ironic about this? scholarship players forfeit their scholarship when they enter the portal. P4 schools should not be allowed to cut a player due to injury.

No doubt. That dude had serious arm talent, that few have. Good OL or not you don't throw for almost 9000yds and 70 TDs without that. You can add up all the QB's who have played at Iowa since Stanley left and I din't think their numbers combined would be near those.

Regardless of his faults dude had some serious arm talent. That guy could make throws that no one at Iowa before him or since could even attempt. May not have been mobile, but he was a bear to bring down..
This was by no means a shit on Nate Stanley comment. The comment was based on him putting up insane stats for an Iowa QB without being elite.

What I thought. Sullivan would have to really light it up in the bowl game to be considered the leader in the clubhouse before the spring practices even start imo.

The past 3 years should have convinced everyone beyond any doubt that QB is simply a position that you can hide a bad player at, and where if the player is not at least competent it severely handicaps the offense and puts a hard ceiling on what your team can achieve.

You put Stanley on this team and they might be in the CFP and they certainly are NOT anywhere close to last in passing yardage.

No shit, you put Sullivan in at the beginning of the season and it looks different. My only point being made was that you need to have a strong front 5, and IMO to make a functional offense that is the #1 key. You don't need a Williams/Sanders type at QB to be very successful.
