For the first time in 44 years Purdue is back in the Final Four

Edey was getting mugged the whole game. He was getting the Wilt Chamberlain treatment because he's so big and strong. They could have called a foul on them every time down the court. Edey might push a little, but they lean all over him. Watch Bill Russell play defense on Chamberlain sometime and watch someone get leaned on and pushed for 48 minutes without getting called for fouls.
The difference is Edey is SO big he can push the crap out most guys and it just LOOKS like he is leaning a bit. I would think defenders could just plant their feet and if they get bumped just fall down. But this would never get called.

I thought of this movie scene from reading your post, and Kareem agrees with you regarding his (Edey's) treatment.

Considering all the regular season titles and conference tourneys Purdue has won over the years, them not making the final four since '80 is one of the more remarkable stats out there.

They've had alot of good teams over the years.
Over the last 30 years we have had 4 one seeds, but majority were 3 or lower. Of the 4 we had an Elite 8, Final Four, second round and first round exit.

During that time we made the elite 8 four times going 1-3, including a miracle loss to Virginia. Twice the higher seed and the other two the lower.

No doubt Purdue has underperformed in the tournament, but many of those teams were not favorites to go far.

An interesting stat mentioned during the Houston-Duke game was that the win they had was the first time since their 1994 win over Purdue that they beat a higher seed in the tournament.

I mention this because to win in the tournament on a regular basis you need a good team capable of a high seed then get to the second weekend.

Purdue has had a great run going back to 2016. An Elite 8, couple sweet sixteens and a final four. But also some early exits. Just how a single elimination tournament is.

Good luck to your women's team. Hoping that we can get both champions from the Big Ten.

What's crazy is the last time both Purdue and Iowa played in a Final Four (in 1980), Jimmy Carter was 55 years old and President of the United States.

Jimmy Carter is still alive and is now 99 years old.

And I was there…….heck of a great time until Ronnie went down. I think that was also the last year of the consolation game after Purdue beat up on us bad.
Your close. It was canceled the next year.

Thing is Edey used to get into foul trouble. He's learned what he can and can't do.

He's so massive he can effectively use his mass without "looking" like he is...if that makes sense.

Unfortunately the smaller guys guarding him can't. The have to be more blatant about it for lack of a better term.
