IOWA CITY — While it was expected after he went through Senior Day activities, it was confirmed Sunday that Iowa forward Dale Jones will not be returning to the Iowa men’s basketball team for his final year of eligibility.

Hawkeyes Coach Fran McCaffery confirmed Jones’ decision Sunday, as first reported by Land of 10 and confirmed by Iowa officials. McCaffery said, “Dale made the decision a long time ago he wasn’t coming back,” at the team's award banquet Sunday night.

However, Jones said this after the Penn State game. “It’s not going to stop (with Senior Day), whether I come back here or go somewhere else. I’m going to ride this out until the doctor tells me I can’t play anymore.”

I think everyone knew he wasnt coming back. It would have been dumb. You dont keep a 6th year guy that doesnt play.

I had thought there was a chance he would stay at Iowa as a walkon. How many schools are going to be interested in a graduate transfer that can't stay healthy? I thought he may not have any options, and Fran would let him remain a part of the team.

Hopefully he finds a good landing spot.

If his knee buckles again, he could get a medical scholarship, and not cost Iowa for the 13th....theoretically.
However, I think he will play. There are plenty of teams that could use a 6'8" forward who could lead the team in 3pt percentage and likes to rebound... Best of luck to Dale.

There is nothing wrong with that. Fran signed him thinking Jones would he there for 2 years. He kept that commitment.

I think Fran meant that Fran made the decision long time ago.

This...Fran more than held up Iowa's end of the bargain. Unfortunately it didn't work out for Dale due to the injuries.

UNI would honestly be a perfect landing spot for him. He can be back home and Jacobson tends to find a way to get the most out of guys. I'm not sure who UNI has coming in but I know they lost Morgan and aren't overly strong at the 3-4 positions nor do they have a ton of size.

Really, it's a non issue if he can't graduate by the end of the summer.

I am pretty sure he was an academic non-qualifier out of high school. As an athlete and their demanding schedule, graduating with his bachelors degree after only two years at the 4 year school might be tough.

He's fine. Having five years to finish four helped.

Can we,, can we get all you Iowa State fans and Iowa followers who think things like Fran has evil master plans to Crean players, or recruits like Nunge are fails...or whatever.

Can we get you together for a group photo before you go?

Not sure I am following there buddy. I'd invite you to find a post where I am against Fran. Heck in this thread alone I back him up stating he wasnt running Jones off.

My only recent thread where you likely disagree is where I suggested Connor could try baseball instead of BB. Differing opinions on that, but I am not the only one suggesting it.

He's fine. Having five years to finish four helped.

Before the season started I feel like I had already read Jones said he was considering two options:. play professionally overseas or move onto another school for his final year. Maybe not 100% but if the idea was floated before the season it was certainly in play at the conclusion.

Dan, what Fran is saying vs what Dale is saying is totally opposite.

Dale, based on the quote in the original post, obviously would like to be back; Fran said "no," moved on, and used Dale's schollie on an incoming freshman.

Sucks for Dale. Most on this board think Fran was being fair, and so be it. Dale got 2 years at Iowa and is getting a degree.

You don't have to be such an a$$ about this. How about you post your pic on here instead?

I wasn't being as big an azz as I could be. But here it comes. I don't like it much when people try to spin something. And that's all you've been doing. You couldn't even put the whole quote in your post!

http://www.thegazette.com/subject/sports/dale-jones-to-leave-iowa-mens-basketball-20170409

“If the opportunity presents itself somewhere else where they want me to come in and be an immediate guy for them to score the ball, then that’s something I’m willing to do,” Jones said after the Penn State game. “It’s not going to stop (with Senior Day), whether I come back here or go somewhere else. I’m going to ride this out until the doctor tells me I can’t play anymore.”

See, I can bold things too. o_O

Here's what you did, Franisdaman. You linked an article, which is great, should always link sources.

But then, instead of cut and pasting the entire quote which is your sole argument as to Fran's vicious treatment of Jones, You circumcised the entire first sentence off Dale Jone's quote. You. Left. This. Off. "“If the opportunity presents itself somewhere else where they want me to come in and be an immediate guy for them to score the ball, then that’s something I’m willing to do." Why did you do that? Why did you leave it off?

Anyone just cut and pasting a quote is going to start at the beginning and swipe the thing until the end! And people can see the entire quote in either the link you gave or the identical link that I offered on this post. And say, isn't there something different about the way the quote reads between the article and the fake story Franisdaman offered!?!?!?

Well, sure as s#!t there is something different! What's this? However, Jones said this after the Penn State game. What's that?!?! That's not in the original article!
So you cut off half the quote, and added a qualifier, "However". However what? You presume to say Jone's quote is in stark contrast to Fran's? "Totally Opposite", as you put it? Well dang you sure did everything you could to make it seem that way! Shall we review?

1) You skipped half of Jone's quote. And that takes effort to find the exact part you wanted to present from the middle of a short paragraph. And pal, that obvious effort goes to show intent.

2) You then add your own words, "However, Jones said this after the Penn State game.", and with that one word, "However" you interject a contrast between McCaffery's comment and Jones. A conflicting set of words MAYBE depending on how one reads into them.

And here's the kicker.

3) You actually put your own words IN BOLD. You see, Franisdaman, I've got you with three intentional acts, any one of which shows intent to put a contrasting spin between two statements casually made in public (not a damn court of law). Now that intent is proven, the only thing in question is your motive.

THREE intentional acts, Franisdaman. You edited the original quote to emphasize your point...even removing the part of the statement that reveals that Jones knows exactly what is going on. YOU HAD to leave that off or your point is lost before it's even begun.

ADDING you own words to the article to place an emphasis on the contrast between McCaffery's words and Jones' words. (However). That's your spin, Franisdaman!

And actually putting your own words IN BOLD as if that makes them a highlight of the article. Wow.

These ARE intentional acts, Franisdaman. The only question is, why go to the trouble to defame the coach? I suppose the motive may never be known. It's certainly not the first time you've advertised the worst way of looking at McCaffery.

Fortunately, I'm not seeking to solve the whole thing. Just being an AZZ, so you can see what me being an azz is really like.

Have fun trying to explain the obvious, intentional, bulldroppings, from your opening post.

A defensive post coming from you was expected. You obviously have a lot of time on your hands to type up a bunch of BS whenever you feel like it.

but that's what you are know for on here, huh? Whenever you disagree with the facts, you go on a temper tantrum and hope somebody likes your post.

You are a hypocrite. You say I am trying to spin things, which obviously is not the truth; I simply quoted Fran and quoted Dale. Dale said after the last home game, and I quote, "if I come back here [to Iowa]," so that OBVIOUSLY does not sound like he "made the decision a long time ago he wasn't coming back," as Fran stated. Iowa was definitely an option for Dale, in his mind, because he was talking OPENLY about coming back to Iowa. It was not an option for Fran, however. No conspiracy; just the facts.

Yet, here you are, in ONE OF YOUR FAMOUSLY LONG A$$ POSTS, SPINNING! Why, Dan, are you spinning away from what Dale said with a bunch of BS that I and other posters have learned to stop reading after a few sentences? Your posts are GARBAGE.

Nevertheless, good job, Dan. Thanks for showing us all once again that you are a HYPOCRITE and someone we should all ignore, especially when you go off on one of your childish rants.

Ladies and Gentleman. As Dr. Propaganda would have you read the Dale Jones quote, "if I come back here [to Iowa]," .

Again, please read the real quote without edit or additional wording from anyone besides the author of the article, "“If the opportunity presents itself somewhere else where they want me to come in and be an immediate guy for them to score the ball, then that’s something I’m willing to do,” Jones said after the Penn State game. “It’s not going to stop (with Senior Day), whether I come back here or go somewhere else. I’m going to ride this out until the doctor tells me I can’t play anymore.”

I've shown the three intentional steps it took Franisdaman to create his little lying post in the first place:

1.) He edited out half the quote from Dale Jones.
2.) He added his own words into what was presented as a copy/paste from the article.
3.) He even put his own words in bold!

That's some sick stuff. Just to find a way to try to slam McCaffery. And the funny part was it didn't work anyway. Whether Fran told Dale or discussed it with Dale and they decided together? It's McCaffery's right to tell a graduating player who has enjoyed two years as the deal was, that it is time to move on! And Dale OBVIOUSLY knew that was happening.

Where was Franisdaman when Bielfeldt and Albrecht were leaving Michigan the exact same way? Where was outrage from anyone!?!?

No, Franisdaman, nice try. And I know you love your little digs at McCaffery. But big fail this time! Big, fake news, fail!

Edit to add. He did it again! Franisdaman what is WRONG with you!? You slippery little turd you snuck in the word "if' into the Jones quote! There was no IF! The word was "whether"!

Holy crud it is obvious you are changing the quote! Do you not understand how much of a big, fat, liar that makes you!?!?

Incorrect.
You can't take something from someone that they don't have.

Dale never had a scholarship offer for a third year.

Give it a rest.

just read the article. You don't know what Dale had; I don't know, either. All I know is what was confirmed by a reporter from the Gazette. As you will read, it was not until April 9 that everything was confirmed.

The opening of the article was this:

Apr 9, 2017 at 6:26 pm
IOWA CITY — While it was expected after he went through Senior Day activities, it was confirmed Sunday that Iowa forward Dale Jones will not be returning to the Iowa men’s basketball team for his final year of eligibility.

i am not going to bother reading your garbage. I doubt others will either. You are a clown and love the attention, that is obvious.

people can read the article and decide for themselves.

I think its clear based on what Dale said after the final regular season game that he wanted to come back for his 6th year; Fran obviously had other ideas. People might also recall that Dale did not want to go through the Senior pregame ceremonies.

Fran said at the banquet that Dale made the decision a long time ago he wasn’t coming back. Well, if that were the case, why was Dale STILL talking about Iowa as an option for next season after the Penn State (final regular season) game? Well, it's because Dale did not make the
decision a long time ago that he wasn’t coming back; Fran did.

Don't disagree with Dan ever; otherwise, he will throw a temper tantrum and write an obnoxiously long post.

Fran gave Dale 2 years at Iowa, which was great. Dale will get his degree.

Fran helped get Dale a 6th year, which also is great.

I just think Fran made it clear to Dale that the 6th year likely would not be at Iowa.

Even though Fran said “Dale made the decision a long time ago he wasn’t coming back” at the team's award banquet, I think it was Fran who sat down and talked to Dale and said that it was extremely unlikely Dale would be back because Fran had a couple other players in his sights for next season and the scholarships were probably going to be spoken for.

If Dale had no intention on coming back to Iowa (if he had made that decision a long time ago, per Fran), why would he say after the Penn State game. “It’s not going to stop (with Senior Day), whether I come back here or go somewhere else. I’m going to ride this out until the doctor tells me I can’t play anymore.”

Dale hoped until the very end that Iowa would be an option for him.

Next time. why don't you try just linking the article instead of editing it, changing it, and even putting in bold words that weren't in it!?!? Fakity Fakity Fake Fake!

Interpretation is in the eyes & mind of the reader. Words & sentences can carry varied meanings. If you want to believe that Jones wanted to come back next year as a 6th year medical and if you want to believe that Fran said no...because he had "a couple other players in his sights" and he needed the scholarship...so be it.

In the end it only matters whats good for the player & the program. I think (based on Dale's medical history & his physical condition) as well as the players we have returning.. he made the right decision not to return ... I believe Fran discussed such with Dale going back to last fall.

You guys are way too butthurt over nothing. Dale Jones was on the basketball poster with Peter Jok, the only senior on the team, before the season even started. I said then, before the season, that it was Jones' last season regardless of performance. If any of you feel that Dale had his scholarship yanked out from underneath him... You're wrong, and no highlighting or bolding of words in articles will change that.

* If Dale DID NOT have Iowa as a possible landing spot for his 6th year, why did he say after the Penn State game that “it’s not going to stop (with Senior Day), whether I come back here [to Iowa] or go somewhere else. I’m going to ride this out until the doctor tells me I can’t play anymore.”

Fran and Dale are saying the exact opposite things, agree? After the Penn state game, Dale still had Iowa as a potential landing spot. If he decided a long time ago (per Fran) he wasn't coming back to Iowa, why is he still talking about Iowa as a landing spot just a short while ago?

Anyone, other than the child (Dan), want to answer? It's just common sense. Something the child Dan does not have, obviously.
