Fran on Riley Mulvey

Another year of eligibility, with a legitimate coach, Riley could become the next Brad Lohaus, a long shot, but better then using Ladja Dembele who is a player that is neither a rebounder nor someone that can play defense, at least not that I've seen this year.
If I had to pick between the two at this point in time, I'd pick Mulvey and it's not even close, but Fran will continue to play Dembele minutes as the season slowly fades away to oblivion. 11 games left in the season and 11 potential loses stare Iowa right in the face of a real possibility.

In Fran we trust.

Mulvey has really good quickness, decent hands, and gets into the right position to rebound. He should be the first big off the bench, as long as he keeps playing well. I would use him to give Owen a 3-4 min blow each half.

He is in his fourth year, but looks like he has never lifted a weight in his life???

Neither does Brickfort.

No doubt Riley is a nice young man who is a good teammate.
Fran clearly still values these things...old school.
And yes, Riley had a couple of nice hustle plays lately.
Maybe certain matchups he can contribute( Mich, NW, MSU).
Use him to spell Owen sparingly.
Ladji and Tadjo need minutes also, tho, with Koch out.
Tadjo needs developmental minutes..he has physical traits to be a real player.

Just remember, Riley is one of 13 on scholarship.

Most only want Fran to play 9 of those 13, and Riley normally would not be one of those 9, obviously.

Let's just appreciate the fact that Riley is a great teammate & when Riley's number has been called, he's been ready and has done a good job.

I think you're confusing MMA or WWE or rugby or something with basketball.

Ever see Pete Maravich videos? How about John Johnson of the undefeated BIG champion Iowa Hawkeyes? Glen Vidnovic, perhaps? Not to mention that monster Caitlin Clark.

Are we talking getting Tadjo/Dembele minutes in blowout losses? If so then I agree with you.

If we are talking about getting them minutes in competitive B10 games for the sole purpose of “development” then I can’t agree with that sentiment.

Your truly competitive teams of the world aren’t playing guys for “developmental minutes” during tight games in the crunch time of the season. You only play guys like that at this point in the season out of necessity (Foul trouble/injury) or because the season is a lost cause (which we are admittedly getting close to).

Strength training has evolved from 50 years ago and was a major factor in the improvement of CC from her freshmen to Senior season at Iowa.

As you say...season is very close to being lost cause, especially when you look at our schedule.
We need to look to next year if we lose to OSU,PU and RU in coming games.
Avoid the bottom three to make BTT but get Tadjo & Traore out there more minutes.

They weren't trying to guard the monsters playing center in the B1G. I saw JJ in the pros live a few times. He was not skinny.

Did anyone notice in our last game when Mulvey repeatedly got wide open in the lane, but we didn't pass him the ball?

Either the other players don't trust him, or they've been instructed by the coach not to pass him the ball.

Seemed odd to me.

I said the same thing in another thread. Riley was rolling to the basket after screens, and PSU wasn't guarding him. It happened 2 or 3 times in a couple minute span. All he would have had to do is catch the pass and make the wide open layup or dunk.

Maybe they do not take him seriously because of his rather odd behavior and work ethic/lack of strength. But, just a guess.

So Riley will play 10+ years in the NBA now? huh Can't wait to see it!
