fran should win CotY

1. Gard
2. Fran
3. Underwood

I don't think it's close really. Wisconsin was picked 10th pre season and the program was surrounded by bad press. I mean ... He lucked out having Davis make the jump he did but that was a heck of a coaching job.

Everyone keeps saying Gard should win it because Wisconsin was "picked to finish 10th" in the BIG10. I think we are giving them too much credit for that fact.

Gard, Pikiell, Underwood, Fran. You can quibble a spot or two, here and there, except the top two. Those are rock solid top two.
yeah, this really isn't a question. If we did what wisconsin did this year we would be pushing for fran to be national coach of the year.

Fran is 2-5 vs. Quad 1 opponents. Gard is 8-3. I despise Wisconsin, but their Quad 1 records are what they are. Not sure how much that will play into the decision.

In conference play, Iowa was 1st in in B1G scoring Margin (total points vs opponent points per game) at 6.8 ppg and Wisconsin was 6th at 1.8 ppg

Yet Wisconsin won co-share of the B1G, doing the best with the least and Fran did the worst with the most.

I think Wiscoinsin under Bo Ryan, and to lessor extent under Gard, have shown their system is better designed for grinding out conference wins. This year they also had some good luck.

Fran's system is more exciting to watch, but doesn't translate into above average performance in close games or conference titles---so far in 12 years.

maybe the trend has changed under fran in recent years but we don't win the close games like wisconsin and the other elite teams do.

Unfortunately, what follows is why Greg Gard will likely get B1G Coach of the Year.

Wisconsin was picked 10th in the preseason; they finished 2nd after tie breakers and for B1G Tournament seedings.

The next 2 best coaching jobs this year?

IOWA: Picked 9th, finished 5th
Rutgers: Picked 8th, finished 4th...... @MrsScrew

The worst coaching job this year (and it's not even close)?

Michigan was picked to win the B1G; they finished 8th.

I’d give it to Mark Turgeon. He got out when the getting was good… 😎

The funny thing is Frans system as you described is the polar opposite of KF, his system is not exciting , BUT he generally wins more games then projected and yet there are plenty of fans who want him out as well. I guess Iowa fans just don't get to be happy either way....
