Bryce Cartwright was the most under rated player under Fran. Arguably the best point guard he had.

PG Bryce Cartwright signed his Letter of Intent on June 9, 2010. Bryce was the second recruit for McCaffery at Iowa (Melsahn Basabe, who initially signed with Siena, was Fran's first recruit; Basabe announced he was a Hawkeye on May 1, 2010).

Cartwright played his freshman year at Fresno State and his sophomore year at Paris Junior College in Texas before transferring to Iowa. Cartwright joined already signed Iowa recruits Devyn Marble, Zach McCabe and Melsahn Basabe on the 2010-2011 roster.

Bryce ran out of eligibility in the spring of 2012.

If this is a starting 5 based on who were the 5 best players of the Fran era, by position, that’s easy:

Dev
Jok
Keegan
White
Garza

If it’s a starting 5 based on needing to field a team that could win games against anyone, I would honestly swap Garza for Woody. There’s a reason Fran had Top 40 defenses when Woody was playing and sub 150 defenses when Garza was playing.

Yeah, was not sure what to do with Woody.

Good list. Garza, Keegan and White are automatic. After that it’s debatable. I’d put Baer on the 2nd team over Cook or Bohannon. His intangibles were off the charts.

Dev, Garza and a bunch of really solid wings. I never agreed with how he viewed the 4 spot, but the biggest killer for coach was his inability to get great talent at pg.

Best of luck to he and his family in Indy.

Payton Sandfort at #11 is laughable when your list is missing Kris Murray.

I’d swap Kris for White but either way, it would be a tough team to play.

A starting five that would struggle to stop dribble drives or play good defense.

Not many guards on that list.

Who coaches the All-Fran team? Because you have to get a different coach to do anything with an All-Fran team.

Lack of guards and lack of defense is why Fran's All-Time team would still get beat by that Oregon team.

Devyn Marble was not a PG at Iowa---he was a "3". Gatens could play some 2G, but he could only dribble/finish to his right. Same as Weezy---more 3" thand 2G. We had a bunch of good 3's and 4's that were exceptional on offense but not many guards under Fran Garza of course was great at center and rebounded, but not a plus defender. Dix is probably the best pure 2G Fran has had---i.e. decent defender, can dribble and finish with both hands.

Who would be the PG on all FRAN team? JoeT ended up the best PG Fran had but he ended up at Texas Tech. Fran wouldn't play JoeT if he was on and All FRan team, because defense wasn't a consideration. If t were a All Fran team with Fran as coach, we'd end up with JBO at PG and CMAC starting somewhere and PMAC 1st guy coming of the bench, Garza at Center, Keegan at PF and Kris being Redshirted.
