I questioned his decision making at times but never his heart, effort, or dedication to Iowa BBall. He had a very good career IMO.

I’m a Matt Gatens stan. When the Lickliter era was at its depths, Iowa allowed free entry for students against Ohio State. Matt sprained his ankle so severely in shootaround he could barely walk. But he was amped for a full student section that he demanded he be allowed to play. In timeouts and when he was taken out, he stood and wouldn’t sit because he didn’t want his ankle to swell. They lost but nobody played harder. He was asked to bulk up under Todd and then shed 20 pounds under Fran. He did it. I wish he and Sandfort would get more respect because they absolutely deserve it.
