I'm not sure I like the starting rotation of Gesell, Clemmons, Jok, Uthoff and Woodbury with three bigs coming off the bench (Wagner, Uhl and Baer). Clemmons from an efficiency standpoint (Win Shares per 40 minutes) is one of our worst players throughout our 9 man rotation. He ranks 8th out of our key contributors in that regard only ahead of Ellingson. His offensive efficiency (PER) is also very underwhelming at 8th on the team. Gesell isn't a lot better ranking just ahead of him. I think having both of them on the court at the same time limits our capabilities.

My personal opinion would be to see Gesell, Jok, Uthoff, Uhl or Baer, Woodbury with Clemmons backing up point and maybe playing SG sparingly.

PER:
Baer: 19.3
Uhl: 17.0
Clemmons: 14.5

WS/40:
Baer: .172
Uhl: .141
Clemmons: .122

Clemmons has scored double figures the past 5 or 6 games. The guy has been playing I thought pretty good lately. Last night they zoned up on us, and took away his ability to drive and dish.

I think the starting 5 is alright, its the guys off the bench that need to come in. Early in the year I seriously think they were playing for fun and had a lot more energy to them. Now you see Baer, Uhl, and even wagner come in and look lost. Their is not the same effort as there was earlier in the year. IDK if Frans wants to play the other Freshman, but what is coming off the bench has not been pretty lately. And that is why you see our poor play.

IU game was the start and vs Minny was much of the same. Last night Baer hit some shots, but that was it. No one else really did anything. In that case I would of tried one of the other freshman for a little bit. Hell even if its for a min or two, it gives the starters a break.

Either Gessell or Clemmons is going to have to start knocking down outside shots or Fran is going to have to figure something out. Shot 42% and 41% the last 2 games against teams that basically give up 50%. Teams aren't guarding Gessell and sagging off of Clemmons. The scouting has caught up to Iowa and Fran needs to adjust.

MG and AC need to wake up and get the ball to JU in the post. He is open down low several times a game and they either refuse to throw it in or wait until his defender has reestablished position. It's been happening all year. It also seems idiotic to mess with the starting line up but I would love to see Baer starting for AC right now. AC can be a scorer when he comes in with UHL.

His WS/40 in conference play is actually pretty atrocious. He's only a .114 in conference games. I'd like to see Baer start who has a .137 conference game WS/40.

That would create a balanced starting lineup with imposing size. We would also have much more balance off the bench with Uhl and Wagner who can play the 4/5 and a legitimate backup PG in Clemmons. Jok at SG and Uthoff at SF would create more mismatches than at SF and PF.

I think it would be bad for team chemistry at this point to change the starting lineup. However, I do agree that Jok should be included in the guard rotation and there should be less of Gesell and Clemmons playing together.

I don't care so much about the starting lineup although I don't really buy the chemistry argument, e.g. playoff NBA teams modify starting lineups routinely.

Clemmons right now average 30 minutes per game in conference play. Uhl and Baer average 18 and 14 minutes.

I'd just like to see more rotations with Jok at the 2 and give Uhl/Baer more even distribution of minutes.

The lack of passes to the post (either to JU Woody) is causing problems with flow of offense. Fran's offensive sets have always had that problem but it is more noticeable now that we have a couple guys that are getting good position. Also, when we do drive the lane it seems we are driving with the hope of getting fouled when we should be driving with the hope of scoring. going through the basket instead of away from basket. Take the two points and hope for third instead of having to shoot twice to get the two points

I will agree with this, I thought when Iowa was playing their best was because they went through the post. I thought up at East Lansing and even at West Lafeyette we played through the post and moved the ball from side to side.

In the last 3 games there has been more dribbling than passing and Iowa if you noticed has gone away from Woody in the post. Everytime he touches it, its out on the 3pt line? He can't shoot from out there, why put him out there (I realize its to draw his defender away) but still he does no good out there. I think Iowa has to get back to playing through the post. Woody is a good passer, who will find the open players if he gets doubled. They have to pass the ball more as well, quit trying to dribble around. Pass it and look for the open shots. Utoff has started to double clutch his shot a lot lately.
