Fred Hoiberg could be pushed out soon…

I suspect if the allegations with wrongdoing in the Nebraska bb program are surfaced, with the poor record, we will see Freddy resign due to "health concerns".

Thank goodness. As a native of Lincoln and an alumnus of UNL, I've watched enough success in football and volleyball to last the rest of my life. We wait patiently for something good to happen with the basketball program, and we thought Hoiberg would be it. (Well, we thought finishing 13-5 in the Big Ten, tied for fourth with Michigan in 2018 would be that good thing, but we ended up with a road game in the NIT. Oy.)

But it's become clear that Fred doesn't know what he's doing, and he's been using guys like Abdelmassih to do his dirty work.

Get ready for interim coach Doc Sadler.

I am.

I always thought that Tim Miles was the right guy for that job. He’s laughing from Southern California.
I knew Tim just a little bit when I was teaching at CSU, and I watched him build that program. I was thrilled he took the job at UNL, and he made the tourney in his second year, 2014. That 2018 season was also great, but ended with 21 wins, 13-5 in the conference and an NIT road game. Copeland's injury the next year really hurt, and with Hoiberg available, Moos jumped on another big name that has failed, Frost being the first Moos hire. Let's just hope Will Bolt won't flame out as the baseball coach. He was Moos' other significant hire. So far, so good with that.

FWIW, Tim is at San Jose State, so the Bay Area and not SoCal.

I couldn’t remember if it was San Jose St or San Diego St. I liked his commentary and his podcasting too. Seems like a really approachable guy who is very passionate about his players.

Most realized how he was getting NBA talent to Ames. It wasn't a secret among coaches who recruit for a living.
So why didn't he get caught in Ames? Why Lincoln? It's not like NCAA sanctions are going to make us worse. It's the Joe Cipriano Curse.

Same reason his players got away with almost anything. He had that town in the palm of his hand. He isn't a god in Lincoln.
He's been a dog in Lincoln. I guess he's not good in cities, just small towns.

I gotta ask again. Were you @IowaHawkeyeFBnBB4Life ? That handle has suddenly disappeared and then you showed up. I long suspected when you divulged in your IC location on the husker board. It's ok to come clean now, it was funny while it lasted.

I am not. I've been on Husker Online as @9and4 since 2013, I guess, when a 9-4 record in football was disappointing for us still. Before that I was @jayschool, which is also my Twitter handle and my handle on https://huskerhoopscentral.com/, though my participation there has waned because of this year's utter disappointment. As a journalist and a journalism instructor, transparency is important to me, so having any kind of a handle besides my real name has been odd, so I'm not the type of person who would masquerade as someone else.

Thanks.

What makes one think Nebraska would fire Fred if he was cheating? They have a tradition to uphold. Much like their sellout streak their fans ignore integrity on all levels. After 7 losses in a row they honestly believe they are better then Iowa.

Nebby fan perception is all that matters to the cult.

Nothing official yet but their assistant, Matt A, just took a leave of absence for health reasons and rumors are swirling about regarding recruiting violations at Nebby.

Yikes. And their team is atrocious.

Too early to say, but if ISU continues it’s trajectory, it could be argued TJ Otz was the real mastermind behind those 2010s teams. Hoiberg has been unimpressive ever since.
Uh, there's no reason anybody but an ISU fan would know this, but the word for a dozen years or so has been that TJ is responsible for recruiting most of the really good players when he was an assistant, and he worked under three: McDermott, Fred and Prohm.

Did he do his own recruiting at UNLV?

Oh so that's how it works at Nebraska, if coach does something wrong and says he didn't do it. Well case closed.
Nebraska assistant that has disappeared this week do to "health" reasons happens to be Hoibergs chief recruiter and player finder. But Fred says nothing to see here Trev.

I figured there was cheating going on at ISU when Fred was there.
Like when Fred self reported Lefty Moore’s extra texting while recruiting Jok? He fired Moore and quit recruiting Jok. Felt bad for the kid. He could have played for Fred instead of Fran.

TJ recruited virtually all of Hoibergs top players. And Fred didn’t like to emphasize defense like TJ does.

He went to nba for money. He should have cashed the check and retired.

nba is a talent league not a coaches league. Look at Popovich, supposedly some great basketball mind, without all the talent his teams suck ass and he is just and giant wind bag.

any coach that thinks they can coach up nba teams is delusional and wouldn’t want them coaching my college team.

I call it the Washington DC privilege. You are SO respected that you ALWAYS tell the truth, trust them.

He just needs to cheat better.

In era where basketball and football players can make money from sponsors and head coaching percentage
of the pie is going up to absurd levels for an "amateur" sport, it is difficult to define anything as cheating.

I am stuck following the Hawkeyes, but programs like Iowa and Nebraska will always be at huge disadvantage to
the blueblood schools that are located near big recruiting centers. Nebraska and Iowa being mostly rural states really have no chance to compete to win NCAA titles in football or basketball.
