Iowa has some fans with deep pockets. You only need a handful to step up. Will be interesting to see if they do.
Jok doesn’t suffer from little bro syndrome so he was better off in Iowa City.Like when Fred self reported Lefty Moore’s extra texting while recruiting Jok? He fired Moore and quit recruiting Jok. Felt bad for the kid. He could have played for Fred instead of Fran.
Yes, I would rather have Barta and him throwing millions at Fran. That is the smart move!Jok doesn’t suffer from little bro syndrome so he was better off in Iowa City.
But at least your self proclaimed financial genius of an AD spent $10M to hire a coach with ZERO NCAA Tourney wins to his credit.

yeah I wonder the same. I guess they are still getting NIL figured out, Texas and their Horns with Hearts program for O-line recruits is way ahead of these other saps on using NIL. Yeah if the cheating is true and Fred had any link to it along with his record at NE he is done. But I think he probably won't need to take a job stocking shelves at Lowes he will be OK LOL. There were always rumors Matt was a little 'slippery' during his ISU days. How do you cheat in an era of nil???
Because clown fans say so.Early returns show that was money well spent.
TJ is awesome because of all his NCAA tourney wins.Yes, I would rather have Barta and him throwing millions at Fran. That is the smart move!
Since you’re an old fart like me and can remember, a somewhat serious question: what did you think about Nee? I know he was a terrible fit culturally, but he won a hell of a lot more than anyone since, and I thought that’s all Nebbers cared about was winning (like football last century and women’s volleyball this).Thank goodness. As a native of Lincoln and an alumnus of UNL, I've watched enough success in football and volleyball to last the rest of my life. We wait patiently for something good to happen with the basketball program, and we thought Hoiberg would be it. (Well, we thought finishing 13-5 in the Big Ten, tied for fourth with Michigan in 2018 would be that good thing, but we ended up with a road game in the NIT. Oy.)
But it's become clear that Fred doesn't know what he's doing, and he's been using guys like Abdelmassih to do his dirty work.
Get ready for interim coach Doc Sadler.
I am.
What would you expect him to say?Didn't Nebraska AD say there was nothing being investigated?
Very early returns mean little.Early returns show that was money well spent.
I'll take the extra 1.5 Million for my AD to not be a huge nerdy Vagina.Yes, I would rather have Barta and him throwing millions at Fran. That is the smart move!
I liked Nee. His NYC persona was actually kind of fun to have as head of the program, and he brought some great players to Lincoln, even though some (like Andre Woolridge) didn't hang around for four years. He recruited Erick Strickland, Eric Piatkowski, Rich King, Mikey Moore, Jaron Boone and Tyronn Lue.Since you’re an old fart like me and can remember, a somewhat serious question: what did you think about Nee? If Nebraska wants someone who knows how to cheat, they can always try and lure in Rick Pitino. He just needs to cheat better.
In era where basketball and football players can make money from sponsors and head coaching percentage
of the pie is going up to absurd levels for an "amateur" sport, it is difficult to define anything as cheating.
I am stuck following the Hawkeyes, but programs like Iowa and Nebraska will always be at huge disadvantage to
the blueblood schools that are located near big recruiting centers. Nebraska and Iowa being mostly rural states really have no chance to compete to win NCAA titles in football or basketball.
That's a funny take. Fred stopped recruiting Jok when he got injured. Dropped him like a hot potato Of course the Hawkeyes stuck with him and it worked out really wellLike when Fred self reported Lefty Moore’s extra texting while recruiting Jok? He fired Moore and quit recruiting Jok. Felt bad for the kid. He could have played for Fred instead of Fran.
Past 65? He'll be 70 in September. If Nebraska wants someone who knows how to cheat, they can always try and lure in Rick Pitino.
He's past 65, and he probably wouldn't have much interest in Lincoln even if they paid him $5 a season, but he'd instantly upgrade the talent and even with a limited shelf life is probably good for at least one Sweet 16 appearance, assuming he'd coach 4 or 5 seasons.
UNL doesn't really have much of a hoops tradition, but they do have some pretty slick new facilities. They just need a coach that can take advantage of it.
Not true. The Lefty story is true. That's a funny take. Fred stopped recruiting Jok when he got injured. Dropped him like a hot potato Of course the Hawkeyes stuck with him and it worked out really well
That's straight out of the Tom Osborne playbook, his players would rape or beat someone and Tom's response was always, I asked him about it and he said he didn't do it and I believe him. Same thing Trev is doing. Nothing to see here.
Google it. Jok tells it differently. Not true. The Lefty story is true.
How many ncaa tourney wins did fran have before iowa?Jok doesn’t suffer from little bro syndrome so he was better off in Iowa City.
But at least your self proclaimed financial genius of an AD spent $10M to hire a coach with ZERO NCAA Tourney wins to his credit.
I'm pretty sure it was in the report to the NCAA that ISU would cease recruiting two of the guys. The report was redacted, but its pretty obvious when one of the names is three characters long. I can't remember who the other guy was. I'm pretty sure ISU wanted Jok until that incident.Google it. Jok tells it differently.
Good post 9and4 but Devyn played at Ankeny Centennial with two other players that went D1, one to Missouri, now at Texas Tech, and the other UCF, not sure if she is still there though. Devyn is a beast and that was one hell of a finals between Nebraska and Wisky. I hope Iowa’s new coach can bring in the Iowa talent as a base to improve the program immediately but it will be hard with Cook and Kelly cherry picking the top talent in the state.I liked Nee. I was covering University of Miami basketball in the late '80s (right after their re-start), so I didn't see Nee's first few teams much because they were bad and television coverage wasn't as ubiquitous as it is today. By the time they got good (five NCAA tournaments in eight years plus an NIT championship and a Big 8 Tourney title), I had moved to Colorado to teach journalism, so I got to see them at least once a year in Boulder. Fun style of play. Even had a No. 3 NCAA seed in 1991, but lost a 3/14 matchup to Xavier.
I started going to games with my father at the Coliseum in the late '60s and early '70s, and Nebraska was never really a bad team from Cipriano to Iba to Nee, but until the NCAA Tournament expanded to 64 teams, we often just finished out of the running behind KU and/or KSU, sometimes Mizzou or Zero U. Hell, in 1965, Nebraska's 12-2 team in the Big 8 didn't make the dance because only conference champs were invited, so KU would fill the conference's tourney slot.
Then Barry Collier came to town, and he began the program killing, though he had some good teams. He was the Bill Callahan of the hoops program. Then came Doc Sadler, and he was a good coach but a poor recruiter and never made the Dance, a little like Pelini going 0-3 in conference championship games. Was Tim Miles analogous to Mike Riley? Both nice guys, but Tim lasted longer and had more success.
Now we have two program killers in charge of two of three high-profile men's programs — Hoiberg and Frost. Wrestling is good (not Iowa good, but good), but it's just not as high-profile as football, hoops and baseball.
Thank goddess for volleyball. GBR! Beat Pitt!
(Final Four note for Iowans: Madi Kubik is from WDM Valley and Devyn Robinson of Wisconsin is from Linn-Marr, so if you're inclined to watch volleyball, you might be able to bring yourselves to root for those two if not their teams.)
Thanks for the correction. I moved to Iowa five years ago, so I should have known that.Good post 9and4 but Devyn played at Ankeny Centennial with two other players that went D1, one to Missouri, now at Texas Tech, and the other UCF, not sure if she is still there though. Regarding bball, not sure what to think of Fred. He is just a mess getting it turned around in Lincoln. He needs to focus on a style of player at the high school level and build it from the ground up then add transfers to fill holes. Good luck. Painful to watch what is currently going on at UNL as both teams are just not good and the head coaches aren’t doing themselves any favors with their extension signings from your DA AD Moos prior to his departure. That was another bad hire. Looked good on the surface but man he was a drunk that gave money away.
Not only that, but the ultra-vigilant NCAA has detected no wrong doing, so that gives them a clean bill of health.Oh so that's how it works at Nebraska, if coach does something wrong and says he didn't do it. Well case closed.
Nebraska assistant that has disappeared this week do to "health" reasons happens to be Hoibergs chief recruiter and player finder. But Fred says nothing to see here Trev.
He coaches like he just doesn't care. I used to see the same thing when he coached the Bulls. Just there collecting a check and Nebraska is stupid enough to keep writing him checks. It is actually fairly amazing just how bad Fred has performed at Nebraska. Might have the best facilities in the B1G too. Seems to have good talent but can't seem to win very often.
