Free throws and rebounds!

Jan can't make the free throws BUT she can scare then if they don't make (put them on the bench) and bore them to death practicing them every day

No excuse for these ladies to miss so many free throws
agreed and this has become an ongoing issue which is why I am concerned about Jensen. Basic stuff not getting fixed. I really really hope I am wrong, and we are singing her praises someday.

I’m mad as hell at the youth coaches, traveling coaches, and high school coaches these women had… I mean hell you’d think they oughta know what to do by now.

And yeah, fouling at the end everyone knows that’s how you win the game, 100% of the time it works… Oh wait a minute. Actually, in fact now that I think of it, not even every Coach does that, some games they do some games they don’t…Hmmm that’s interesting.

Oh wait we lost, right of course then it had to be a dumb coaching move. Man sometimes I forget the narrative

I was on her side, but 4 losses in a row is going to lose all of the CC momentum. This game changed my mind. Awful substitutions, not using her timeouts, very basic stuff. If she doesn’t make the dance and make it to the second weekend they need to let her go at the end of the season and make a big splash hire.

Senior guard going 1 for 6 in the 4Q. She's the main ball handler. Jan had to pull her in the OT because of it, so yes its way worse.
There was some improvement overall tonight in some of the areas but still some bad turnovers and probably in the end the biggest issue this team has is they can't make shots. Guyton is about the only one I have pretty good confidence in. Olsen is inconsistent and I have to put this one on her. Those misses directly gave Nebraska momentum and led to the loss. I'm sure Guyton would like to have back that final drive in regulation as she makes that most of the time but she played very well. A senior point like Olsen can't miss free throws like that.

I felt terrible for Lucy down the stretch going 1-6 from the ft line.

She's 82% for her career.

Basically replacing the GOAT and trying to meet those expectations may have effected her game. Hope she can get it together as she seems like a sweet kid.

Jansen's egregious mistakes of the night.
  • Not giving fouls at the end of regulation.
  • Having a four guard lineup in on the missed FT when a rebound is the most important thing at the time.
  • Ava Heiden 0 min
  • Not playing 2 bigs at the same time
I'll add, she must have attended Fran's class on head scratching substitution patterns.

I get that Hannah is only effective at the 5, but this can’t mean then you don’t play Heiden at all….so this promising Freshman is going to set on the bench for the next year and a half?

Zero minutes for her is a giant mistake if JJ wants her to stay.
I've been critical of O'Grady's play, but she was much stronger with the ball last night. Will be a valuable piece if she can continue that.

I wish I saw a good answer here. The obvious issue to me is Hannah Stuelke completely failed in transforming either to a wing player or at least a high post player. She's not a 3 or a 4 and we already have our 5s in O'Grady (greatly improved) and Heiden (our future). It's really that simple and that complicated. If and until she can play the high post or wing, we've seen that 2 posts just clog things up and slow us to an ineffective crawl. Maybe Hannah will never be more than an athletic undersized 5 but if so, I suspect Heiden won't be back next year.

Bad coaching lost this game. My opinion is hieden over Grady every day of the week. When your gaurds can t make freethrows why would ya think they can hit 3 pointers

Last night was the first time in several games we looked like a formidable team again so I'm not too disappointed. FT's are the reason we lost verse the many reasons we lost the previous games. They clearly tried playing faster which is key. Guyton should be starting at the point, and playing 30 minutes a game. Let her play through any rough starts. Lucy should be at the 2, and needs to shoot herself into the groove she had last year scoring 20 plus a game. Not being the PG could lessen the burden on her shoulders following CC.

We can nitpick substitutions but the biggest change was playing fast. That could lead to some blow outs against top teams, but it's the only way this team can score consistently. I think they found some of their mojo last night. This needs to be Guyton's team, and I think she is ready to take over as floor leader.

Late in the game missed free throws and very bad rebounding doomed the Hawkeyes. Plus the inability to make shots . Jan has a lot of work to do with this team. Maybe a little reincarnation of Bobby Knight is needed?

THis is why I do not think Jensen knows what the **** she is doing about half the time.

everyone can decide for themselves where the blame lies but here is the most basic problem: no mental toughness no “positive” concentration, no confidence. need those to make free throws late to win games. as well as throughout. does a player want the ball late…want to be at the line? do they “hope” they will make it or “know.” they will?
