He was one of the hotter names floating around out there. I would have thought he would have been in line for a little bigger of a gig. Maybe this is just getting the 'head coaching experience' box checked off for the next go round.

He's now situated in a recruiting hotbed with an exciting offense in a weak conference. This was a strategic move, and I can see it elevating his status even more.

The homer in me says that he's setting himself up to get the Nebraska job as soon as Riley either is fired or retires. Won't be more that 5 years maximum and maybe as soon as 2017. Doesn't hurt to make some recruiting connections in Florida along the way and get head coaching experience. I think the UCF job is a perfect fit because I believe there is a good chance to do well there given the location and conference he's now in.

He's only been OC for 2-3 seasons, so I don't think he'd have been able to go most of the P5 openings. Also, he'll be taking over a team in UCF that has had recent success (BCS win a couple of years ago), is located in the heart of Florida with great athletes everywhere, and that has a pretty big alumni base (their enrollment is bigger than all B1G schools) to get engaged. He'll be given some time to get things figured out, and has a pretty decent situation.

I think its the recruiting connections he can establish while building up his resume at a program where he has better odds at buliding good teams against other teams in the conference outside of USF. Frost already has great recruiting connections in the West and Texas. If he ends up being Nebraska's coach in a few years he is a coach that could build a monster.
The AAC is getting a reputation of building some pretty good first time head coaches.
