…when the ball drops the 2020s decade will be over half way done. We will be closer to 2030 than 2020. Also, for bonus depression points we will shortly be closer to 2050 and than 2000!!!

Seems like this decade has snuck up with us between Covid nightmare, insurrections, Iowa and FSU struggles on offense, and the war in Ukraine….honestly a lot of people have 2020 and 2021 all jumbled into one year. I know I do.

Ah…… but when does the decade “start”? I would think the decade starts in the “1” year and not the “0” year…I believe I heard this discussed on NPR or some such thing regarding “Y2K” and the 21st century. The consensus was that the new century (the 21st) would start on 1/1/21 not when the year changed fron 1999 to 2000.

If one was born January 1, 1990, did they turn 10 on January 1, 2020 or 2021?

Do you know why the ball drop is the standard for bringing in the new year?

Why does a ball drop on New Year’s Eve?

Is it really arguing when people point out you are wrong and you can’t admit it?

Arguing vs debating. He is 100% arguing and field goal shifting. Never an actual debate.

He can't even admit he was wrong about arguing with his wife and posted here looking for support. None was given.

Nope. Not until July 2. Tomorrow we will be four years and one day removed from 2020 but still five years away from 2030.
Nope. Meant from start of decade to end of decade so first second of 1/1/20 to last second of 12/31/29 when the decade ends (and meant first 25 years of century being over). We will be at 5 years and 1 second, 25 years and 1 second and closer to 12/31/29 and 12/31/49 then 1/1/20 and 1/1/00.

Be that as it may, we will still be closer to calendar year 2020 than calendar year 2030 for another 6 months.

You are being intentionally TJish. Pretty sure most people understood the point I was making which was in the context of talking about starting and end points of decades. The 2020s are shortly halfway over and we will be closer to 1/1/30, the start of 2030s than 1/1/20 the start of 2020s…
