With the verbal commitments of Marinelli (#1@160) Young (#8@152) in the junior class and Mejia (#1@113) and Renteria (#3@113) who is your biggest need recruit and why?

Mine is Mark Hall and it isn't close. Here is why. We have verbals from 2 of the best lightweights in the country in the soph class. We have high interest from Lee, Suriano, and Gomez the kid that just beat Renteria. We will probably get one of them so our 2 lightest weights should be set for a long time. Maybe in time one grows to 141. We don't have anyone I believe is a top notch replacement for when Meyer and Brooks graduate or if they move up when Burak is gone. Hall could step in as a true freshman and compete at the highest level. That is the kind of kid that we need to start winning championships again.

I'll be surprised if anyone disagrees with you in the slightest, Weh8. (Well, Spooner will disagree about something.)

Hall is the obvious top choice. No one else seems close.

Hopefully he had a great experience in visiting Iowa City and experiencing the positive and supportive feel of the Hawkeye fans and competitive team spirit. I think that Brand's philosophy fits well with his and he would be a great fit both in the place in the lineup as well as with his competitive spirit.

You've got that right Tarp. I wonder where ol spooner was at Nationals, I know he wasn't in the Hawk suite.

Maybe he isn't as connected as he portrays.

In addition to Hall and Spencer Lee and Suriano and Yates and.................................. yeah, that's a lot to hope for, I would like to see an additional 197 lber brought in to battle with Wilcke. I'm not in the camp to move guys up just to hopefully fill a need, or because maybe they could. Yes, some are still growing no doubt, but most guys can go thru college in a holding pattern for 2 weight classes, and we're often on the smaller side in our lineup the way it is.

I've already seen enough undersized 197 lbers at Iowa to last me the rest of my days. Breath of fresh air to see someone like Burak who actually fit the weight class pretty good from Day One.

Evans and Telford anchored the back end of our lineup pretty well the last few years, would love to have some more quality "big fella's" arrive in Iowa City (and of course Nathan and Sammy are very solid guys as well). Think we're OK with Stoll and Bradley.

Wilcke said after this years state tournament that the plan was for him to be at 184. I thought Bowman was our future 184 so that was interesting to me. Bowmans redshirt year wasn't anything to write home about so I hope he improves alot or Wilcke turns out to be the man. I am hoping for Downey to come here after he leaves the OTC and be our 197 but I have no idea if that will happen.

Hall is the next big one to fall. Even if Iowa is lucky to land him, no advantage for him wrestling his freshman year. 174 and 184 will b interesting weight classes next. Who is moving up and where incoming redshirts land

How do you know Hall is the next big thing to fall? And yes I'd love to see him in Iowa City. IMO definitely a full ride guy.

If we landed Hall and he wanted to go 174 right away I think Meyer and Brooks are plenty big enough to move up a class.

Burak? Does he plan to redshirt next season or not. Don't think he will lose out to Brooks and Meyer. Meyer may be odd man out again if Hall comes in. Even if Burak would redshirt next year, the following year there would be a congestion unless olympic redshirts would come into the picture.

In SPOONER's defense, in all of the years we've posted together on Hawkeye sites, I've never seen him claim to be "connected" - opinionated, yes - but connected, no. Are you sure you didn't mean Spoons?

I assume one of these guys ends up bumping. I am not sure if Bowman was pegged as the future, I think he is for sure a challenger for the spot when Brooks graduates, but if memory serves he didn't show up in the rankings until after the state tournament and he was a low 20s guy. Bowman had a great Fargo (think he took 5th - TF Wilcke in the 5th place match), but I think he was still a little raw and needed refinement.

Wilcke on the other hand comes in with some more credentials and has always been a higher rated prospect. I am not sure where they shake out in the lineup, but I don't think Bowman was ever deemed the future of 184, and I am sure that even though Wilcke said he is going to 184 he would go to 197 if the team needed it.

I heard down in STL that Hall kind of likes the me vs the world- villian-everybody hate on Iowa thing. I think we might have a Sith dark lord on our hands. I dont feel its a lock but I feel better than ever about him.

However I do worry if Gross getting into trouble will play any factor at all? Honestly still shocked he was one of the 3 names. Didnt see that one coming.

Yeah, to be honest, I was just talking smack and shouldn't be. My apologies Spooner.

We are not going to shirt Burak if we land Hall knowing he wants to wrestle right away. We have an outside shot to win next year with Burak and have zero shot at winning next year if we redshirt him. IMO the only reason to redshirt Burak in a scenario that we also get Hall would be if we are throwing in the towel on next year and plan on redshirting Hall his first year.

Word around the arena was Hall to Minnesota. I think Wilke will need a couple of years before he is ready to contribute.

I will believe it when I see it. They were terrible at Nationals this year and will be worse next year. He will not want to be on a 5th or 6th place team. Just my opinion.

I hope you're right.

If we don't get Hall (don't think we will), the irrational meltdown is going to be off the charts.

Spencer Lee. Give him Morningstar's house. I don't care, just get him!

Not going to say we are the favorite because none of us seem to know and as far as his visit the same. But.... What I have heard is his dad loves Iowa.

He does not really fit into the "ours to lose" mold that gets that reaction. I think most are pleased we are in the discussion and hoping it goes our way.

What I heard from a pretty legit source on Hall was it's down to Ohio State and MN. Obviously a persons mind can always change. Nationals coul have multiple effects. He could look at it as an opportunity to restore MN to greatness or he could look to join Ohio States success and keep the ball rolling. He could have looked at the respect the crowd had for MN's Dykan Ness or he could have watched in awe as Steiber won his fourth title. It's hard to say where his head is at currently. So many factors to analyze. All I know is Hall can go anywhere and be successful. I hope it I MN, but will cheer for him wherever.

I have always heard Hall Sr is a big Hawk fan, but he wants the decision to be Mark Jr's.

With the recent arrest and possible felony charges of Seth Gross, Halls former teammate and good friend from Apple Valley. How much do you think that will play into Hall's decision if Gross gets kicked off the team and transfers?

If I was Hall it would have zero to do with my choice, I'm sure he has or is capable of making other friends plus no one has any idea how the deal with Gross will turn out and it may be some time before that happens.. Metcalf is a friend of his already and has been long before Gross. I read he worked out with Marinelli recently as well. Gross being on the team is a feel good thing but not in any way going to decide how he spends his college career. Put it this way, I did not consider having Gross to be something that was going to especially help us get him so not having him (which we don't even know) should not be a negative. Having a stud like Marinelli for him to roll with is something that is critical.

Lol,that's all you got for reasons ? Iowa can give more reason then that. I' ll let Hawk posters throw out reasons why Hawks would be best choice first for him and I'll check in later if nobody should post. But the bottom line is it's his choice and decision like you said.

I cant believe all the " legit" sources that claim different things regarding Hall!

We will put our best foot forward and the young man will make what he feels is in his best interest.

Few months ago we were not even in the discussion.. so your saying we have a chance....

This topic is way easy to overthink. Franklin Gomez came from Puerto Rico to wrestle for MSU and didn't even know it was cold in Michigan. Who the hell knows what these kids are thinking - or not thinking.

HiWillie,

I never intended that to be an inclusive list of reasons. It was meant more as a hypothetical thought process that Hall could have went through at nationals between his two finalists(according to source). Every school has plenty to offer.

The source I reference asked Hall directly, but this conversation took place about a month ago. So as I said things can change.

If your source asked him about a month ago and that was his response, either Hall BS'd your source or your source BS'd you.

This is what we can promise to Mark Hall and Spencer Lee: On a weekly rotation, four HR guys will carry them around in a litter like royalty from class to class. I can't do it because I am in Arizona but I am sure we would have quite a few volunteers. Also, anybody on here have a good looking daughter they want to throw into the mix just on GP?

Has anyone heard about any potential transfers who will be on the market? Usually this time of year there are a few guys who move around due to some coaching changes. Getting a guy who is eligible right away at 141 or 165 would be great.
