FYI for anyone else planning to attend the northwestern meet

NCAA just stated natural immunity from having COVID is considered fully vaccinated for all athletes, it should be good for all fans also.
That is comforting to hear. My son has tested positive 2 times so maybe they will quit testing him now. Is that a possibility?

I am vaccinated. I live with someone who is not. I could care less if others are vaccinated (except I dont want them to get sick of course), because all I can control is myself and the vaccine protects me from the virus. This variant is NOT the boogie man. Out of my 6 family members 5 have recently gotten omnicron. I am vaccinated no booster, didn’t get sick (also tested negative 55 years old). Partner unvaccinated, sick with a stuffy nose and nothing else. 2 others fully vaccinated with very mild symptoms. Remaining 2 vaccinated no booster fever and chills for a day. Last 4 are all in there’s 20s. This variant does not affect vaxed vs unvaxed any differently with regards to infection rate and severity imo. I could give many more examples from my work which is a research lab. Everyone needs to chill out, make decisions for themselves and let others do the same.
I think this is the same story a lot of people have. We have had about a 1/3 of our high school team test positive and all had very minor colds or less. 3 of the coaches (all vaccinated) tested positive recently with minor aches and pains or less. Same with my wife and son ( no vaccine). I certainly hope that people will look at their circumstances and take their personal experiences to be valid and realize that this latest variant is the one to get and not to fear.

Where do you live? I’ve been the movies, restaurants, sporting events and I’ve never been asked if I’m vaccinated or to see my card.
I think Minneapolis and St Paul put this into effect yesterday. Show the vaccine card or a negative test result in the last 72 hours. I think it is for restaurants not sure what else

I would like Grip to post a source because the most recent BS is all athletes/staff have to get a booster if it's been "x" number of days since they gave in to the original shot. Which is exactly why many athletes didn't want to do the first one because they knew they would just keep adding to it. The athletes need to move faster in their fight for medical freedom.

Unless you do not have a vaccine card.
Understood - but there are testing sites everywhere. If you want to attend bad enough, you'll do it. If you don't, so be it. I don't go into the city because I don't like many of its policies. But I don't get the chance to go to a meet very often so I'll comply. Win the war - not every battle.

Are you fricking kidding me? Another one of these dumb ass threads. This kind of crap needs its own thread. Idk how that hasn’t happened yet. Stop arguing about politics, no one is changing their minds. And no one is going to convince anyone that they’re right. Accept that fact and move on. Come on now.

As recently as 2 days ago the athletes were being required to get a booster if they're original shot was over "x" amount of days ago. I don't think the NCAA is following the policy you posted.

Is it the NCAA, the Big Ten, or the Iowa Athletic Department requiring the booster? Part of the decentralized nature of college athletics is the multiple orgs who all have a say/impact on policy. And since athletes are not employees and they do not have a union or collective bargaining agreement there is very little recourse they have except through the exemption or appeals process.

That's a good question. It isn't the University of Iowa. It could be Big Ten rather than NCAA but I'm pretty certain the medical doctor I spoke with mentioned the NCAA as the driver for the booster requirement.

Thought I saw you had to wear a mask to attend the Vikings game last week (?), but they've since upped the ante as per normal in Minneapolis and St. Paul. To the surprise of no one I would surmise, for damn sure not me.

What about those like my daughter that have a rare blood disorder? She has been told by 3 different doctors to avoid getting the jab if at all possible. There just is not enough research on long term side effects for her…..
She is a D1 softball that goes back this week but wanted to go to dual with some friends as a last weekend out before the grind starts for her.

per the policy, she can show a negative test result.

With each passing minute this is being proven to be the pandemic of the mentally ill.

The irony of these bullshit consuming, mindless sheep devoid of free thought calling others the “dumbass class” is beyond pathetic and moving towards complete and total psychosis.

The backpedaling as the truth is revealed is priceless and I’m here for each and every second of it.
Thank you for your service.

Extremely clever response as usual… Sarcasm is fun.
Not being sarcastic.

Non-consensual participation in control groups has always bugged me a bit on a certain level. It’s fine for some research, but not in matters of life and death, imo.

Good thing it isn’t then, huh?

Both things are true.

Natural immunity (within 90 days) is considered the same as fully vaccinated.

But they are only considering someone fully vaccinated if within 6 months of Moderna, 5 months of Pfizer, or 2 months of J&J.

But, the only difference according to that is more relaxed protocols for close contacts. It doesn’t mention testing though.

Yeah. Not a big deal unless you belong to the class most discriminated against currently in this country. I know. I know. No one is making anyone get vaccinated right? But if you’re not vaccinated you can’t eat in a restaurant, can’t go to a movie, can’t enjoy live entertainment, can’t travel by air (in some places), can’t go to college, oh and can’t earn an income for your family. I am pro vaccination for those that are at highest risk but this discrimination is absolutely insane.

Discrimination?

And that's one of the great things about living in Tennessee...we have none of that craziness! And for the record I am vaccinated, but still I think some of these measures being taken are absolutely ridiculous!!

I will be there and yes, I understand the rules because I live it daily. For anyone who has not been to their new arena, it is nothing like the crap hole that is their football stadium, or the glorified high school gym that was their old arena. It is really nice, helpful and friendly staff, and good concessions. If they charge for parking in the lot, just park on the streets to the north. Two-three minute walk at most.
Just make sure you put enough time on the parking meter!!! Ouch, a $40 parking ticket!!!

Hey, everybody be careful on the way over to Northwestern today. Weatherman showing some really suspect weather between Iowa City and Chicago later today. I travel regularly between Chicago and Iowa; highway(s) #80, #88 and #20/#39 are always well maintained and safe, lots of weekend traffic. Tonight should be fun. Stay Safe

The schools have all of the athlete’s medical records, so it’s easy to prove.

While I understand your sentiment… If I’m entering a sporting event I don’t want to be stuck behind hundreds of other people pulling out manila folders with medical records, doctors notes, test results, etc. That would be much more annoying than simply wearing a mask for 2-3 hours.
That is why many venues use apps to allow a simple flash of the phone.

I’m attending next week against Ohio State. You have to wear a mask there, too, and no concessions.

Thanks. That's the same as last year with the no testing for 90 days after a positive. So it appears that they are going to continue mandating the booster regardless of previous Covid infection.

Anybody meeting at Ten Mile House beforehand? I am considering a last-minute trip down to watch.

Anybody coming thru tonight … I’ll be at Ten Mile House just up the street from Welsh-Ryan by around 5:25. Introduce yourself by your screen name and your first one is on me.

I’m a little dude (5’ 9” and ~76kg), nearly non-existent gray hair, light gray beard and gray/blue glasses, wearing an old gray fleece 1/4 zip.

Crap, my ticket order failed - can’t believe it may be sold out. I’m heading down anyway. Maybe they lock sales down early.

edit: all good
