There have been some rumors about Gable Steveson-to-Iowa popping up over the last few days. He does technically have a COVID year of eligibility available to use, I believe.
Needless to say, that would be an enormous addition to Iowa's roster. Iowa does have a very good heavyweight already in Tony Cassioppi, but Steveson is an all-timer. (And if Steveson did come, I believe Cassioppi would be table to take an Olympic redshirt in 2023-24 to preserve his last year of college eligibility.)
He was reportedly in town to do some training with the Hawkeye Wrestling Club -- he's on the US freestyle team headed to the World Championships in a few months (September). Whether he could actually transfer to Iowa and suit up in black and gold as well... TBD, but we'll see what we can find out.
