Gary Close Question

Gary was a long time Assistant to Tom Davis and moved on to Wisconsin when Tom was dismissed. I think he has done a good job recruiting against Iowa while up in Madison.
Does anyone know why he wasn't given the Interim Head Coach job when Bo left ? Was he considered too old at this point in his career. I don't know much about Gary . Can someone fill in the blanks ? Thanks.

The interim coach had been with Bo Ryan for 25+ years and is the guy bo wants to take over

Bo did do Gard a favor by choosing to stay on until part-way through the season, when Wisconsin had no choice but to let Gard finish out the season. Bo didn't want to leave the last 2 years when he had the Kaminsky/Dekker/Gasser trio, along with Hayes and Koening/Jackson, to make legitimate runs at a national title. Bo announced his final year shortly after last season in hopes that Alvarez would officially name Gard the successor. When that didn't happen, Ryan made noise about this not being his final year and then went out and retired in December. While this team is not all that good, it at least gives Gard the full conference season to be the head guy and to be evaluated by Alvarez. Barring a near-miracle run by the Badgers, Alvarez will do a national search and move on from Gard. At least that's my opinion.

He coached at Iowa City Regina for a couple of years, and was by all accounts a pretty huge prick when he was at that level.
