I don't think LG will be drafted in first round this year. Second round players never make NBA roster. Playing over seas not great option with Corona Virus. G-League will be there in a year if that is what he wants, Maybe one more year at Iowa City he will be a first rounder. Come back and win BIG TEN and make a run at Final Four. Who knows what can happen? Every year great under-grads leave early and don't even get drafted. Frank tell you son to come back get a degree and win the BIG TEN! Go Hawks!

Marc Gasol, Draymond Green, Monta Ellis, Kyle Korver, Manu Ginobili and many others disagree with you.
True enough, but you could print many multiple pages of guys who didn't make it coming out of round two, so that really doesn't help your argument.....

You cannot compare Luka as an NBA player vs. any of those guys listed, that's silly.

I responded to "second round players never make NBA roster". So by finding some that did make the roster and made contributions to teams, I made a great argument. I never compared Luka to any of the aforementioned players, therefore, not silly.

There has been rumors floating around that Luka has already graduated....ask Legend I believe he mentioned it once or twice...

2019 25 of 30 players drafted in 2nd round appeared in a NBA game
2018 26 of 30 players drafted in 2nd round have appeared in a NBA GAME
2015 15 of 30 players drafted in 2nd round never played an NBA game

You're missing some years in there.

How about out of the last 10 years?

I just didn't feel like doing anymore than this. Some years there is a good chance at playing in NBA as a 2nd round draft choice. Other years it's 50-50.

Unless something has changed, Luka is not on any mock draft boards. I don't know how all that works, such as if a player isn't listed if it's assumed they return to school, but I have yet to see anyone projecting Luka to any team. Has anyone else?

Regardless, I believe Luka when he says he'd have to be presented with a "real opportunity" before he'd pull the trigger on forgoing his senior year at Iowa. If Luka were Kevin McHale's age, forget about it. It would be a done deal. But that era is long gone, as is the era of 2nd Rd picks like Jeff Moe and JR Koch.

Unless someone has a compelling reason to suggest otherwise, I'm guessing Luka will be encouraged to stay at Iowa to work on improving his athleticism and outside shooting. I have no doubt there are NBA teams who'd be willing to use a 2nd Rd pick on him this year, but I highly doubt any team, if being honest, has told him they expect him to compete for a spot in their rotation this upcoming season, which I believe, if reading between the lines, is what Luka is saying it would take for him to make the jump to the NBA this year.

So, in my completely un-expert opinion, I believe Luka will be returning for his senior year at Iowa.

Not even close to as silly as saying "Second round players never make NBA roster"

The first mistake you said "never"; unlikely would have been a better choice of words. Second mistake, trying to predict Luka's NBA future? You don't think he could be a Demond Green?

Do you mean Draymond Green? If the question is whether Garza could be that type of player, then no. Green got his shot with the Warriors because he could defend, rebound and move. Garza is nowhere near the athlete of Draymond Green. If the question is whether Garza could end up being a starter like Green, then sure that could happen. Not likely, but it could happen.

All depends on what Garza wants to do (duh). If he's just ready to be done with college, then move on. He'll get a shot at a pro career, either as a 2nd round pick, a free agent or playing in Europe. He'll get any of those things if he goes now or if he plays his final season at Iowa and then goes.

Are you replying to me or to the guy who said "second rounders never make an NBA roster"?

Luka has never lacked for confidence. Who knows how he might react to being told he needs to return to college by the NBA evaluators. He may take it as a challenge to prove them wrong. Hope not. I've enjoyed watching him from his first game on the court as a Hawk when he hung 16 on Chicago St. and look forward to seeing him evolve his game even further this season.

Personally, if I were Luka, I’d wait until the very last day to decide because everything is changing daily with Covid. Could be a real possibility Covid robs everyone of a b-ball season next winter. If that’s the case, couldn’t blame him trying to go to Europe and start making money.

Hope I’m absolutely wrong.

while I agree he is unlikely to be anything better than a late 2nd round pick this year, I struggle to see that being any different after another season. He's probably going undrafted either way. Question is mostly whether he wants to start earning professional money overseas next season or if he wants to play another year in college.

He loves his team/teammates and being in Iowa City, he will want to come back and go out with a bang, special season brewing in IC with this group.

Either way he probably won't have any trouble scoring in Ann Arbor;)

the odds are overwhelming that if you're a second-round or you're not going to make it there are exceptions.and if you want to talk about building a brand is best chance to do that as have a great year make and get some national exposure during March madness

sure, but worth pointing out that lots of players that loved their teammates and loved college have gone pro early because they had bigger personal goals.

It is what it is. As an Iowa fan, it's OK to selfishly want him to come back so your team is better. It's up to Garza to decide if that is what he wants to do.

He MUST come back. Luka has been named a team captain.

The deadline has been extended, but that doesn't necessarily mean his evaluations will go on longer. Maybe we get some good news from Luka sooner. Would be some good news in these dark days.

I've actually wondered if Luka would have by now announced he was returning to Iowa for his senior year if there wasn't some doubt about the upcoming season due to the coronavirus. I don't know. Just speculating. But it seems plausible.

I have yet to see any draft boards that have Luka going in the 1st Rd. And even if he were to be a late 1st Rd pick, that far from guarantees him an NBA roster spot next season. I mean, it's pretty much a foregone conclusion if Luka did make the jump to the next level right now he'd either be playing overseas or in the G League--something Luka has made crystal clear he's not willing to leave Iowa for.

So, yeah, I have to wonder if Luka is really mulling his options over right now, with the college season somewhat in doubt. Like I said, under normal circumstances, Luka would have likely announced by now his gratitude for the evaluation process and the helpful feedback he received and that he was returning to Iowa to work on areas he needed to improve in and to win a championship.
