I see in today's Register he's a 4 star running back out of southeast Polk. Anyone seen him play?
offers from Hawks & Clones so far. is he a Hawk fan??? Clone fan??? other??

Watched him play a game last year against Johnston. Seemed decent, but Johnston contained him pretty well. I thought Johnston was simply a better team. Have heard he is a good prospect.

Big and fast. Probably will finish top 2-3 at drake and carries 200lbs.
Iowa not hot on him until they hear from a couple other kids. Hope we get him as ive heard hes a great kid.

Who are we wanting to hear from before turning up the heat with Williams. His speed is certainly rare around here especially at his size. I'd like to see him have a break out junior year of 1500+ yds and 25+ tds to cement his status as a must have recruit. Even so, even as an athlete with great speed he would be a great guy to have.

This is the kid I have pegged as the litmus test for our recruitting(unless he was raised wearing ketchup and mustard colors). He is a running back (we are o line u) and we are a run heavy offense. He is an in-state so there isnt a "state school", the new staff has had plenty of time to develop a relationship with him. If you can't land this kid how are we going to land a similar kid from x. Gavin has got to be a Hawk.

Sounds like David Johnson.

Other schools will enter the fray. He's an important recruit but not a must get. Duggan wasn't.

About the only other RB in his class that there has been any real mention seems to be Peny Boone from Detroit Martin Luther King.

Duggan was a dual threat QB who grew up on a boarder and we are a "pro style" team. Gavin plays the offensive position we "feed the rock". I get why a WR or maybe QB would want to look around. You gotta set a water mark sometime and a RB from the middle of the state seems like a good place to do it. (Assuming he is not a natural clown fan, but if he is I think that would have came out.)

I'm well aware of what Duggan is and what we are and why he chose TCU. Williams is a good prospect but Iowa does not have to get him to be successful. It would be great if we do but the program will go on with or without him.

I'm not talking about being successful I'm talking about of gauge of how good this new staff is at recruitting. The world will keep spinning with or without him. There are always umpteen reasons why Iowa doesnt get the best skill players to go to the U of I. This kid eliminates alot of the variables that are often used. He is about as close to a "control" as we are going to get.

One kid is too small of a sample size to use as a gauge. It's possible we could miss on Williams but land a more highly regarded rb.

Agreed millhawk sir. It's not like I'm pitching for some "get him or else" I just think he is a good litmus test.

(My phone has a mind of it's own today with auto corrects sorry chaps)

This kid may be a better bet down the road than Duggan.. in state RB with the o lineman that Iowa molds that’s a great combo.. would hate to let another D. Johnson story happen with Iowa on the donkey side of it again.. & watch out for that little RB that commited to UNI down the road too. He’ll redshirt over there, get strong and have a chip and turn out dangerous too..

Who's that UNI rb you mentioned?

I can’t remember his name but he was a little guy from Muscatine, IA probably 5’7/5’8 175/180 range. But i remember he had a good story &some good highlights. Could catch the ball well, very good speed and very shifty. I think he might have been offered to walk on at Iowa but some kids have no choice but to go where they are offered the scholarship.

I was hoping we would land Soko, too. Reminds me of Canzeri

Your premise is based on what is currently a huge assumption. That assumption is that he is a must get, which is yet to be determined. Until that is determined, no guaging of the staff in regards to this kid can be done.

No, not at all. As mentioned we will do just fine without him. What Gavin does provide is the closest thing to a "control". When talking about him there isnt an asterisks so to speak, for the reasons mentioned above. With the staff identifying him so early and listing him as a high priority it's not like we could get to the end and say "we didnt want him".
