What is the point of the GE ads featuring the nerd boy who gets a job there while all his friends ridicule him for it?

Maybe that we won't complain when they raise the price of light bulbs, because they are such a super cool company? :p

I honestly don't know what the hell GE is anymore. Consumer appliances and the like was their thing. Do they have anything much to do with branded light bulbs anymore? Certain they're out of that biz. My mom had a GE stove when I wee one, but I don't see any GE appliances, or branded as such. Seems they sold that division a few years ago. They're very much an industrial/energy type company.

Well, since we only need one thread today complaining about silly ads, I've got some complaints. They just played a Buick ad with Matthew McCanaughy (SP), where he's going to some high stakes poker game. There is almost no speaking in the ad. It focuses on his cuff links, and a straight he gets. For some weird reason there is an iguana in the ad. WTF?
And, don't get me started on the Cialis ads today. They keep telling you it's for when the moment is right. However, during the ad it shows couples parasailing, at a football game, and at a movie in the park event. What good does an erection do you while your parasailing? Are older folks so randy that they will go to a football game or a movie in the park and sneak off behind the bushes for a good old fashioned porking?

See, another reason sex should be covered by the first amendment. The NRA needs to get on those gun restrictions.

GE is huge, has multiple divisions and diverse product lines. Our small industrial manufacturing operation in Colorado contracts with GE to sell our product. I kind of think the commercials are a waste of time and money. And yes, they still manufacture halogen and LED light bulbs.

If you remember the commercial then it was a success. I think the idea of not focusing on a single product and being ambiguous emphasizes the GE corporation instead of a single line of products and creates awareness of all the things GE does in technology. Older companies want to be seen as tech companies because that is where the high valuations come from.

They're extremely well diversified. Always have been a nice long term investment.

What if I remember it because the commercial sucks balls and I boycott it on the principle of forcing me to watch/listen to its garbage? Success?

Side note, I don't talk about commercials with my friends, so bad or not - their crap isn't getting spread around.

I just assumed the point was to piss me off enough to want to throat punch a kitten.

Well played GE, well played.

I like them more than the stupid car commercials that celebrate millennials leaving work early or quitting their jobs and buying a car to drive across the country.
