Geno Stone is starting at the Strong Safety position now with Hooker playing the "Star" olb position. Kid is a playmaker and will be a dynamic starter in 19 and 20. He had the pick and a noice open field tackle as part of a strong game today.

Wonder what they do when Nieman and Hockaday come back. It's still a nice package to have against throwing teams like Purdue and Nebraska. 4-2-5? Like Stone a lot. Hooker had a really good game.
Now that the nickel star package has been tested and used successfully, I think it should be used more regularly especially against the pass heavy teams. Start our returning backers, but sub the package in readily.
When we are healthy again at LB we need to go to him and Hooker as safeties.
Gervase is such a liability. He got absolutely poterized today 3 times.

Gervase is okay in pass defense--he knows where to be. His problem seems to be when he is isolated 1 on 1 and has to make a tackle in space. Stone/Hooker are better pair at safety for base defense.
It's nice to see Stone playing ... and playing well. I'm happy for him ... and also it's great that he's been gaining more experience and confidence. That will pay huge dividends for next years D (in addition to this years D).
I am happier when walk-ons are not starters in our defensive backfield. Gervase is a decent safety but the future looks brighter with guys like Stone, Merriwether, Craddieth, Castro and hopefully Creamer. Ezpect to see Riley Moss move to a safety spot next year.
Insert Jayden McDonald as an OLB for next season and we should have no problems covering the spread O.
Yeah ... Golston has been pretty active ... definitely been playing some solid ball. In fact, all our DEs have been playing really well.
