Getting clobbered in the Rose Bowl

LC: You seem like a decent guy and I enjoy your posts.

This is lunacy, however.

Iowa has laid an egg in 5 out of the last 6 "big 6" NY Day bowls they've played in. But, they've been invited to play in them. From what I've heard from fans, each of these bowl trips has been memorable, regardless of the outcome.

It sucks to lose...and often lose big...on these big stages in full view of the college football world. But the Iowa Hawkeyes have been a part of the biggest stages in college football for the past 35 years. Minimize those experiences if you must...but it's still been a fun ride.

I actually agree with LC. And I imagine if we ever go in a long stretch with no bowls at all we appreciate what he's saying a bit more.

LC IS right. Man that hurts saying that.

Look at our Major bowl seasons.

1981-Rose Bowl loss many fine memories of the season.
1985-Rose Bowl loss, considered the most talented Iowa team
1990-Rose Bowl loss, season ended not great(MN) but many good wins.
2002-Orange Bowl Loss, resurgence of the program.
2009-Orange Bowl win, we won and a great season.
2015-Dissapointing last 2 games but 12-2 is a great season no matter how you slice it.

....is one hell of a lot preferable to not playing in a bowl, or even to winning a lesser bowl, IMHO.

Just sayin'.
Thanks LC. I hope you are right. We clearly need to upgrade our recruiting.

I actually find this to be an experience I want to forget. Sure, hanging out in old town Pasadena was fun, but the game was a disaster.

The only fool is you. Get lost.
Your the fool, son. 12 wins was good for a division title, that's all. Iowa, NW and MSU all got exposed ! Big Ten was weak this year, live with it. No, I'm sorry you should be out celebrating the Hawks great win over Pitt. Yep that same Pitt team that Navy kicked around. Dude the Hawks didn't beat one great team this year, not ONE ! Who cares about 12 win against a bunch of lousy teams...smh FOOLS GOLD

This was my first bowl trip, and I don't know how other hawk fans do it. I'm sure when the team was winning their bowls it was fun, but the last 4 have been pitifull. Yesterday was indredible. But, for a first bowl game experience, it soured rather quickly.

I've been to two bowl games....yesterday and the 2003 Orange Bowl. Never again.

It's almost a Hawk tradition to get destroyed in the Rose Bowl, well every 30 years or so.
My oldest brother Iowa alum, went to the 82 Rose , and watched the Hawks get shutout. My next brother another alum, went to 91 Rose and watched Washington boat race the Hawks by 30.
Both live out there so they attended again but did tell me and I should have listened ' it will be a blowout ' . They were right. Beyond blowout actually.

I think you misunderstood me. I was saying that playing in the Rose Bowl, even with a bad loss, is better than just about any alternative.

Hawk_Rock_12 - I kind of "get" what you are saying, but is Iowa supposed to apologize for going 12 and 0 against their schedule? Iowa has no control over the B10 portion of schedule and in the non-conference they played two Power 5 conference teams (Pitt & ISU), which is no different than most team.

I think most fans share this sentiment, but yesterday is tough to swallow

There was nobody that thought Iowa would be 12-0. A great year with a bad finish to it. KF has put together a hall of fame resume at Iowa. Hopefully Iowa will finish better next year. In sure we will hear coaches talk about it for the next nine months.

Okay, so you are now officially on record as the expert claiming bowl games to be the sole determinant of college football success.

Pitt was a quality opponent. It has very little to do with how Pitt fared against Navy last Monday. The mere idea that you want to discredit any and all teams that Iowa beat in 2015 is ridiculous. Wisconsin and Northwestern were good wins (or do you also give Stanford zero credit for the egg it laid in Evanston this year?) Even the game against Nebraska was a game versus a talented team that is learning the Riley system. The near miss in the Big Ten Championship game against Michigan State featured two hard hitting teams fighting for sixty minutes.

Who cares about twelve wins? Many, many Iowa fans. Like has been stated by another poster, your composure is commendable... to be able to hold such vile and anger for over four months is nothing short of remarkable. Nice job.

Dude, how many beat downs do you need ? Iowa, Northwestern, Pitt and MSU all got destroyed in their bowl games. You act like Iowa just that had a off day. I call it the way I see it (12 regular season wins) that earned us a division title. If the season meant more to you, great, happy for you.

I take into account more than a single game. That is the difference. You seem to live in full expectation that the sky will fall, everyone else just needs to agree with that. Sorry, we will not ever be in agreement with that.

There is not an Iowa fan that is not disappointed in the outcome of Friday's game. That, in no way, diminishes what the Hawks accomplished over the course of twelve games during the regular season. You want to demean Northwestern, Pitt, MSU and others based on what happened over sixty minutes. That is pure foolishness.

Similar to other seasons under Hayden Fry and Kirk Ferentz, this year will go down as one of the very best performances by an Iowa Hawkeye football team. While you feign happiness for me and others, I sincerely feel sorry for you that you can only see the downside of anything related to this program. It cannot be any fun going through life being (and constantly looking to be) miserable all the time. I am sure we will be able to read your rants now throughout spring and summer.

Losing stinks. Not even being competitive in the Rose Bowl was a putrid thing. You can have it.

I'd take a win in the Citrus, Peach, Fiesta...you name it...over that disaster in Pasadena any year.

I had the Hawks going 9-3 (5-3) with a bowl loss. I'm very happy with the outcome of this season and never once said I wasn't.

My reading comprehension sucks...my bad.
sort of funny how good the teams were we played in some of those bowls, 81 and 91 Washington with Don James, later Washington put on probation.
--03 USC, best team in college football that year and Carroll's run was great, put on probation later as well.
---seems the only way the PAC 12 can win big is by ..................

Just for fun.... can you point me to where and when it was that you made those predictions?

I agree with some of the posters. Iowa is, and likely will always be, the middle of the pack type of team along with MSU and Wisky. All three seem to have peaks of very good years with national exposure followed my several years of mediocrity or rebuilding. I guess it is what it is.

But it's great to be in the spotlight during our up years. And I guess the up years are becoming more consistent. At least we are not one of the bottoms feeders.
