Good old conservative offense in the 2nd half

But they played hard

Ferentz will never learn to go with what was working in the first half.

Another coaching loss. Great work all the way around
I just started a thread about our sluggish offensive 2nd half and some of the strange play calls.

This offense needs to be more productive on most all of their drives next year

It sucks to lose this game. Just too many mistakes (bad snaps, late hit penalty, INT, dropped pass by Gill). But I thought we played fairly well against a good SEC team. Their QB was very very good. We were fortunate they were down up to 3 receivers.

We have to be better in short yardage situations.

Our running game was outstanding but need to have more juice in the passing game. I LOVE having a dual threat QB, but we just did not do enough. I mean that 3rd down play was inches short of a first down, that was the ballgame. Just too predictable on that sneak play.

Yep.
This right here…
Waiting for that great Hawkeye defense this year to bail him out . Problem is secondary was trash most of the year .
Yep, very few pass breakups by the secondary compared to the last 8 years going back to Des King

Absolutely. But it was on both sides of the ball in the second half. Phil Parker refused to blitz the entire damn game, even in the most obvious situations, even when Iowa was getting NO pressure AT ALL on an outstanding QB. You give any halfway decent QB all day to through, and he's going to do what Cook did. It's asinine to expect the DBs and LBs to cover for 5 or 6 or 7 or 8 seconds. Asinine. My gawd. That's coaching malfeasance, Phil, plain and simple.

Enjoy that Broyles Award, cuz there won't be another one.

And with a chance to show Iowa is a place where QBs and WRs can thrive, Lester (Ferentz, whoever) goes into the predictable shell in the second half, takes the offense totally out of its rythm, squashes its confidence, and confounds it all with BF-quality play calls. Eleven men in the box and the game on the line? Hell yes. Run it right at 'em. Or maybe toss a little pass over the LOS for a game-winning TD . . .

Oh, well. What difference does it make? The convict dictator is about to take over, so we'll have a little more to worry about than Ferentz football.

We were down one of the best RBs in the country. Johnson would have taken one or two to the house against their run D.

The sneak play was either a late snap/and or Sullivan trying to get too cute.

Would have to see it again. But pretty sure predictability wasn't a factor.

Would have most likely not been in that position has they pounded the rock on 1st down rather than taking a huge loss

Iowa's play calling if the 1st half - A , 2nd half F- , Just brutal play calling and offensive flow and communication , Iowa stayed in bunch sets instead of spreading the WRs to spread Mizzou's defense out , Just another Day at the office for Iowa's offense in the 2nd half , Iowa's defense in the back 7 was brutal all Day which did not help things, Team with the better QB and Coaching won the game , tip of the hat to Mizzou, as for Iowa it is time for a HC change , I know it will not happen this offseason but at the end of the next Season Kirk really needs to step aside . Disappointing loss and Season

Thought their defender jumped over the center and snuffed the play right away.

Tim Lester's playcalling in the second half was just bad. That's all their is to it. Admittedly, he doesn't have great athletes to work with, but just a bad gameplan the second half.

Why they didn't put Sully under center more, spread the WRs and run iso's and traps right at Mizzou in the 2nd half is beyond Me , Iowa was gashing them between the tackles.

I’m actually going to agree with @eyesofhawk here. We honestly weren’t conservative enough. By that I mean we had 2 backs run the ball for 170 yards on what, 23 carries? Over 7 yards a carry. Instead of giving them the ball 10 more times, especially key 3rd down plays or even the 4th and 2 we put the ball in Sullivan’s hands. Horrific play calling but it wasn’t being conservative. It was being dumb.

Sullivan running backward and falling down loss of 13 is classic Hawk Qb. Lol
Remember Cade earlier in the year taking off trying to run, no one touched him and he fell down and did some kind of Jujitsu roll. 😅🤣😅
Can't make this shit up.

And Mizzou played without their round 1 WR. U think it was bad without him? Imagine how bad it would have been had he played?
It was 27-24 Mizz fan. I didn't say it would have altered the game, I was responding to the person that said you were missing your top receivers.

Pretty frustrating to end the season. Once again, play calling was awful. But hey, there's next year...right? 🤪 🤡

Kirk seems to get outcoached a lot.

We played dumb, we didn’t play not to lose. The smart play (and conservative) was to continue to hand it off up the middle. I will say the 4th down punt was an absolute chicken shit call.
Mizz was stuffing between the tackles, that's their strength. So, as Iowa does, we run between the tackles...good grief.
