Good old conservative offense in the 2nd half

It sucks to lose this game. Just too many mistakes (bad snaps, late hit penalty, INT, dropped pass by Gill). But I thought we played fairly well against a good SEC team. Their QB was very very good. We were fortunate they were down up to 3 receivers.

We have to be better in short yardage situations.

Our running game was outstanding but need to have more juice in the passing game. I LOVE having a dual threat QB, but we just did not do enough. I mean that 3rd down play was inches short of a first down, that was the ballgame. Just too predictable on that sneak play.
Until Iowa gets a functional passing attack this is the best it can be. Kirk isn’t capable of creating one. He proves it year after year.

It was 27-24 Mizz fan. I didn't say it would have altered the game, I was responding to the person that said you were missing your top receivers.
Are u actually calling me a Mizzou fan??😆😆Classic

It was a first down. I went over it 6 times. The ball made it past about the length of it.

Why on earth was there not a review? Kirk was asking the same thing.

I just started a thread about our sluggish offensive 2nd half and some of the strange play calls.

This offense needs to be more productive on most all of their drives next yearally?!?

Really?!? Need to be productive? That's a novel thought. Need to pass it on to the coaches.

Why did the last few drives up the middle fizzle?
Since you asked let’s recap. At the 10 minute mark Moulton gained 8 yards. (Between the tackles.). 2nd and 2 no gain. 3rd and 2? Run Moulton or Jazz? No, run Sully wide and get stuffed. Next series pass for 4, run for 4, 3rd and 2 and again, instead of playing power football we pass and incomplete. We had 3 runs by our backs for 12 yards. Thats 4 yards a carry. We stopped ourselves with forcing Sully to make a play.

They don't really want to know.

They are just trying to find a reason to complain and hope to not get called out on it

Fvck next year. Fvck this program. Ferentz has asphyxiated Iowa football. I used to be so excited for Iowa football games, but the jackass made me totally stop caring. I won't care again until a new coach is there, at least I hope I will by that point. By now, anyone who still cares is living in the past.

You don’t even understand what I’m laughing at you for. Having said that, you guys who want us to ignore our own eyes, not to mention 25 years of statistics are just the absolute best.
Try not to ever speak or type about football

Good. No need for you to post on here anymore

I’m actually going to agree with @eyesofhawk here. We honestly weren’t conservative enough. By that I mean we had 2 backs run the ball for 170 yards on what, 23 carries? Over 7 yards a carry. Instead of giving them the ball 10 more times, especially key 3rd down plays or even the 4th and 2 we put the ball in Sullivan’s hands. Horrific play calling but it wasn’t being conservative. It was being dumb.
They were able to run the ball because they were successful throwing early and Sullivan made plays with his feet. After he took that shot on the goal line, they went into full turtle mode. Ferentz dictated the offense in the second half.

If the result is more wins, I'm all for it

If Kirk didn’t waste his TO, he could have challenged the play. Too bad he wasted a TO early in the 2nd half.

Try again
I will use small words so you can keep up.
If the defense does not think the offense can make plays against them with passes, they will ignore the receivers and attack the line of scrimmage. If the defense does not think the QB can hurt them with his feet, they will ignore him and then it will be 11 against 10. When you don't use your wide receivers as an actual threat, it now becomes 11 against 8. There are more defenders than there are blockers because despite all the jokes about "can he block" whenever a WR recruit visits, Iowa's WRs are the worst blockers in football. No quality WR will give Iowa a look because they know from two decades worth of evidence they will not get chances to make plays. The coaching staff does nothing to develop the third tier WRs they actually get.
So, "run the ball" now becomes impossible and you end up with bottom five in all of football offenses.
They did everything right in the first half yesterday on offense then your god predicted how the second half was going to look in his interview at halftime. He didn't disappoint.

Iowa would have had two more wins this year if not for poor coaching decisions.

That shouldn't happen with 25+ years of experience., but it was certainly predictable.

Just ignore them. It’s mental gymnastics. The closest you get to them ever admitting there’s something wrong is that iowa abandoned the run but I’m sure they can excuse it somehow. It’s never Kirk’s fault.

We haven’t had a passing attack since what, 2019? And the last three years people have rejoiced when our QB breaks 100 yards

The first half was a good gameplan, but you know what good coaches do? They adjust. Missouri did. They brought more pressure and took away Sullivan running N/S

Plus i think Sullivan damaged some brain cells on that goal line series. He was not the same dude after taking those shots.

The biggest issue is that we never ever change our stripes. Kirk has a system.

If the scheme is working and gets you a lead, immediately pack it in and run out the clock.

Defense? Just keep doing what you’re doing no matter what.

What this year has shown is that Iowa’s recruiting and depth is really bad. We’ve gone thru our NFL talent and there doesn’t appear to be any stars in waiting. Maybe a TE

But Kirk will keep on recruiting the same type of player both in HS and portal cause he knows best ! 8 wins!! Do you all really want to go back to the 1970s!!!
