Arizona State has announced that Michael Sleep-Dalton, starting punter for the past two seasons, plans to be a grad transfer next season. He averaged 43.8 yards in 2018 (No. 23 nationally) and placed 19 punts inside the 20-yard line. Here's the link: https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/nc...ist-of-asu-outgoing-grad-transfers/ar-BBS9AfV

The story gives no indication if he has a destination in mind. Sounds like the Hawkeyes should at least see if the kid has any interest in heading for Iowa City.

Thanks. Blair mentioned this in the recruiting thread yesterday.

How would those of us not subscribed know that this was reported? Kind of strange to act like its widely known when its in the lounge.
At least they have gotten in contact with him. Thats a start.

Since I'm not privy to the lounge, I retract my apology. As far as I know, I was the first one to point out this punter's availability to the rest of us poor folks on this free board. And you are very welcome. ;)

BTW: Good to know Iowa has contacted the kid. Maybe he can be the next Ron Coluzzi.

We already gave a punter ... and he ain't going no where .. so get used to it .

Better pass that sentiment (not the exact wording) along to the Iowa coaches who, it has been reported, have already contacted this ASU grad transfer about punting for the Hawkeyes.

Never hurts to have a back-up... but don't think that Iowa will give a scholarship to a position that isn't really a priority right now. The punting game was just fine for what we needed it to be last year .

With Hooker, Nelson and Fant leaving, they have scholarship and would certainly use one on the right guy at punter if needed. The punting game has been among the worst in the country two years running now.

After the first four or five games the punting was horrendous and probably even worse than 2017.

How can you say that when only a couple days ago, Blair posted that the offense was the best it has been since ‘02 and the defense the best it’s been since ‘10?

Maybe the offense and defense were a bit inconsistent, but arguably the only position everybody can point to and say, “yeah, that was bad” is punter.

Is his dad on the Board Of Regents?
You serious?

well son, let's see if that punting average attained mostly in perfect kicking weather holds up in the winds of the cold northern plains. Let's frame that to him that way.

It must be really difficult to find a good punter. When you play the way Iowa does, you have to have a quality punter!!! IF you dont, it makes it very difficult to win against top teams

When a team has a good one, it is the easiest thing ever. Just kidding. It's difficult, because teams don't ever want to have more than 1 scholarship given to a punter if they can avoid it. But what is the remedy if the scholarship punter doesn't work out? Expending 2 scholarships on punters cuts into your depth elsewhere. Iowa, like many teams, offers walk-on opportunities to placekickers and punters, and if a guy wins the job it works out great.

Think he meant to say "uncle".
