Grad Transfer

I feel that this signifies that PMac will redshirt more than Moss leaving (i still think he does) but I'm wrong a lot

You might be right but I just have a feeling Moss is gone and I personally will not be too disappointed. I just don’t see Fran adding more players to what already looks to be a very deep team unles they know some people are leaving. If Moss stays and this guy (or another grad transfer)comes, I hope they get a realistic chance to beat out Moss because I still feel that is where the big upgrade needs to come for Iowa to get to that next level next year.

Not sure a great fit but certainly worth taking a look at. Can’t say I have ever seen him play but looking at his stats that’s a lot of 3 point shots (250) in 33 games. JoBo lead the team last with around 200 attempts in 35 games. I’m not sure if he provides anything Moss did not. Moss’s weakness was creating off the dribble. If he has the ability to do this then i’m all for it. Looks like a player that could play SF or SG.

Do we have any open scholarships? I was under the impression that we didn't, and in that case this is a clear sign that someone's out. It could certainly make sense as a guy that is playing behind Joe W/Moss, and doesn't necessarily mean that Moss is leaving or that his starting spot is immediately in jeopardy.

Some of you guys are real assholes towards our existing players. They give their best year round and you taint sniffers think you're smart enough to call them out.
Did someone call them out for slacking? Guess I missed that. And why wouldn’t a coach try to upgrade and improve the team. I guess you’re fine with the status qou.

Nothing against Dailey, but if he’s not going to see the light of day, which with the three additions next year is likely, he should probably move on.

Not going to get too excited about it, Fran probably had a hard time sealing the deal with Patrick.:( Fran's list of players that didn't come right from high school while at Iowa is less then the number of fingers on my hand. Iowa doesn't need another 3 point shooter, they need a vicious rebounder and someone that understands the word "Defense" not exactly this players forte....

Yep! A guy that can drive and dish or drive and score should be top of the list too.. while everyone is kicking Iowa shooting guards to the curb, iowa really doesn’t have a single player on the team that can get their own shot consistently which is Why we saw Tyler Cook being allowed to do some of things he did on the offensive end because he was just about as tough a guard with the ball in his as anyone we had out there! And that’s not necessarily a good thing.. My thoughts only, but I really don’t see the need for another guy to be just a shooter...

Encouraging but it can't stop here. Unlikely this kid returns a call from Iowa given the list of teams after him but you never know. Fran needs to be all over the portal including (IMO) Jaylen Fisher from TCU. Likely 1-2 guys leave and I don't want to put all the eggs in the Touissant basket because he will be still be a freshman. Necessity to get Bohannon off the ball so we can leverage one of the big ten's best shooters.

I think the fact that Iowa is reaching out to (at least one) grad transfers is the interesting part of this. With that offer list, I doubt he goes to Iowa, but the fact they are even being contacted definitely makes you wonder “who’s leaving?”

Good to be considering options, in case Cook and/or Moss decide to leave. IF this guy is mostly a shooter and not much otherwise (I don't know), he would not be a high priority for me. The competition list suggests that he has some skills that other teams are interested in. Does this mean that the coaches aren't excited about CJ contributing next year?

The profile lists him as a forward but he could certainly play 2-4 in Fran's system and I would think Iowa's selling point would be a starting spot vs, being a bench guy at those other schools unless the dude has some serious game. Makes me think Moss is leaving and Fran doesn't want to bank on Frederick. Doubt this guy gives Iowa a serious look if those others have a spot but then again maybe starting vs. being limited minute guy gets his attention.

At 6’6” I’m guessing the thought is to help fill the void at backup SF with Baer leaving. A decent backup there would make redshirting Patrick a no brainer. If Moss or Daily leave then he could help at SG too.

But as others have said, our bigger need is at PG. Bring a good senior transfer in so that Joe T could redshirt and better prepare for big time college ball, then let JBo play catch and shoot as a SG for most of the game. That would push down Moss’s minutes, unless it is the rare night he has the hot hand, as he would split time backing up SG and SF, which would then also decrease Dailey’s minutes which makes sense for a four year minor role player that hasn’t really improved his skill set. CJ then plays spot or emergency minutes as he acclimates to the Big Ten.

Ideal world
Senior Transfer PG 25 mins
Connor PG 10-15 mins
JBo SG 25-30 mins, PG spot duty
Moss SG 10-15 mins, SF 10-15 mins
Joe W SF 25-30 mins
Maishe SF spot duty
Cook 25-30 mins
Garza 25 mins
Kreiner 15 mins
Pemsl and Nunge fill in where needed to cover the rest, go with the hot hand and matchups
Joe T and Patrick redshirt, CJ plays spot or emergency minutes.

That keeps the young guys mostly off the floor or redshirting, which is what we should be doing considering all of the Juniors and Seniors on next year’s team. But we can’t do any of that unless a scholarship is freed up, you could take a good guess as to which one would be most ideal from my minutes list above, and Fran can get a good senior PG to come in. So it isn’t going to happen.

Interesting breakdown but I don't see Fran going transfer at the PG spot. This would have been the year to do that to give CM a year to acclimate and provide a more proven player to get Bohannon off the ball. Touissant appears to be a guy who can contribute from day one even if his offense is slow to develop. His sheer quickness and ball handling will be an upgrade IMO.

I don't think Joe T is coming in to redshirt. Bet he plans on playing. Who knows he may be what we are looking for. And like has been mentioned guys don't redshirt in BB much.

Dailey looked to me to be incredibly quick but.lacking confidence going to the rim. Give him some time.

Moss is a great player. I hope he stays. Not sure why anyone would want him to leave

They may give your their best but sometimes it's just not good enough. This is Big Boy Power 5 Basketball. If you have a chance to trim the fat and bring in a player that will upgrade your team you do it every time. Do you think if ISU kept all the kids who transferred out and didn't bring in better players we would have the same level of talent as we do Now? Hell no and I'm ok with that.

Joe T and P-Mac will not be Red Shirting. They will both be impact players next season.

Give him some time? He just finished his 3rd season in the program.

What you described is what we need our SG to do way more consistently. I don’t mean just shoot 3’s, I want a SG who can hit a pull-up mid-range jumper, attack the rim and get to FT line, help handle the ball consistently. and play physical, strong Defense in the other team’s scoring guard.

I have no idea if this specific guy can do that but I do know that is not something our current SG’s do with any regularity.
