I see on the schedule now that GV Open is off the list and a TBD in February has been added.
Iowa no longer going to Grand View as a team?
It's an open so he can wrestle unattached as most expect through Midlands right? I would guess the more competition he sees the better the decision that can be made come January. More info/data/input the better.
Spooner, what qualifies a tournament as a competition date? Does the team/University lose anything by pulling out of an official competition tournament and going to an unofficial one?Yup. It isn't a competition date for Iowa so no one wrestling there will be "attached."

Isn't it the number of guys that wrestle attached that make it a competition date?
Ok. I believe there is a limited number to official events. Based on what you're saying, the school ultimately decides what is official by their level of participation. I thought maybe they would lose an official event if they elected to withdraw. If it is on the schedule the university pays all costs to attend--transportation, entry fees, lodging, meals, etc. and the coaching staff coaches the athletes throughout the day. The wrestlers compete "attached" as the U of I as a team is offically attending. For all other events, the costs are on the wrestler and they are competing on their own, "unattached" from the U of I. Not completely sure about your question but it sounds like they would be making a different tournament an official completion date.
Teams can bring six wrestlers to an event attached and have it not count as a team date (but it does count as a date for those individuals, who would then have to sit out a team date). That said, this wouldn't even be an issue for Iowa, as they are leaving a team date on the table anyway (assuming the "TBD" for the last weekend is National Duals, which is exempt).I do not believe the number of wrestlers is a factor. I believe an entire team can be "unattached."
Also, I'm literally writing this from a Holiday Inn Express so I might not be completely accurate.
SHP - It's 17 events, correct? I think so. Another little tidbit, if you have multiple dials on the same day, or duals on back to back days, I believe that only counts as 1 event.SHP - It's 17 events, correct? (That's minus B1G, NCAA's, NWCA All Star, National Duals, etc.)
OBTW, anyone know who will be competing this weekend?
Looks like I was a day early...today at 2:30.Wasn't media day today? Hope we get some good sound bites from the team.
16, with the first two that are on back to back dates counting as one date (be it CKLV, Midlands, Scuffle, Virginia Duals, or duals on back-to-back dates). National Duals, Conferences, NCAA's, and the All-Star Classic are exempt.SHP - It's 17 events, correct? (That's minus B1G, NCAA's, NWCA All Star, National Duals, etc.)

Does anyone know if there an admission fee? Looking forward to attending, just didn't see anything on the GV website.
My guess is maybe $5.00, but you should say you are a reporter for the DM Register and see if you get in free.
Any live coverage or videos to be posted of the GV open?

I heard a rumor that ISU's true freshmen will be in the Open division. That would mean no Wagner/Rathbun vs Ian Parker, or Happel vs Kanen Storr.
