Republicans advance a bill limiting protests held outside of the Iowa Capitol
Republicans on the House State Government Committee advanced a new proposal Wednesday that would limit protests and events on the grounds outside of the Iowa Capitol.

I get that it and I agree it won't make protests illegal but it just adds more red tape, making it more difficult to protest. All because people are fed up with Iowa Republicans bills and making their voices heard and Republicans don't like what they're hearingI doubt it would limit many protests because it seems like you would just need one member of the legislature to approve the protest. So it's not like the R's can get rid of those pesky liberals unless they can somehow win every single seat in the state.
That having been said I still oppose it on principle because free speech does not get limited because of even a low bar of popularity such as one elected official clearing it.
Free speech means you get to say it even if you are the only ones believing it.
It means NAMBLA and the KKK get to protest if they want. It means that if your pet issue is that Iowa should have a day like in the purge every year, you can take that to your government with a protest outside the state legislature.
So this wouldn't affect much but still violates the principles of free speech.
