Young man has had a terrific season, especially the last 3-4 weeks.

I'd say Greg can be a Shut-down type corner next year. Great size, athleticism and
is really showing, lately, that he can tackle his side of the field, with some ferocity.

Took a lot of ish this year, but the fact is he got picked on because one half of the field was always shut down. He'll be just fine in 2015.

Yep and he'll be better for it. I actually thought he was very good when he'd come up and play aggressive press coverage. He struggled a bit in the soft coverages. He's will be just fine

He was also playing soft coverage - by design. Which games angered posters about him? The games where the passes were all in front of him for relatively short gains, again - by design. Illinois threw at him how many times in a row? It didn't work, even though they got completions.

Bend, don't break, welcome to Iowa football.

Agree completely. He has really elevated his game. Although examples abound, IMO the two most directly comparable ones were against Nebraska: 1) last year when he allowed a long pass from Armstrong (in single man coverage, and it was a lazy pass) to go for a completion on what was either 3rd or 4th down; 2) this year when he smothered a fade pass from Armstrong in the end zone (single man coverage, 4th down).

Needs to learn to get his head turned around and look for the ball more. He doesn't need to play soft coverage either as he has the speed to turn and run.

Totally agree and I think he has improved a lot with that. He also got caught looking in the backfield.

This was only his 2nd year playing DB after transitioning from WR, he has a unique and lengthy frame for a CB that will translate well into the NFL.....Parker really does a nice job coaching these lengthy CB's, if not taught properly length can be a detriment for a CB

This. He just needs to learn to read the WR to know when the ball is coming. The soft coverage is more on the coaches than him.

With the growth of Maybin and the hope of King returning, 2016 could be "SPECIAL" on defense. When was the last time Iowa had TWO CB who are legit all conference players? We could see a LOT of blitzing with more 1:1 coverage on the outside. Good coverage gives more time for blitz to get home, and the blitz makes QBs force passes making more INT.

Mabin is solid at corner. Not worried about him at all. Who do we think takes Lomax's spot? He was tremendously productive in that back end and the way Taylor and Lomax fly around the field was huge for our defense. I think that's the key to our secondary.

If the Dline improves (or is healthy) than the coverage will be tighter.

He's improved leaps and bounds the past six games. He'll be a completely different corner next fall. Imagine the D next year, especially if King stays. Two shut down corners, three insane LB's, and hopeful a solid D line.

True...and THAT is one factor that aided his dramatic improvement this year. I feel very comfortable with him in the crew that rides shotgun back there.

I enjoy all the elite football minds instructing Greg Mabin on what he needs to do. Greg Mabin who earned a division 1 football scholarship and who will be a 3 year starter at a big ten school. Makes a fellow consider all the complexities of life.

You forgot will be a 3 year starter after coming in as a wife receiver and changing positions. Very impressive. I thought his light bulb really came on the last half of the year and he was really solid. He's still getting better ay playing the position. I can't wait to see what he can do next year.

I don't think we should be discussing a player's personal life on this board.

I would consider myself a wife receiver as well.....send them my ways boys

Love seeing this positive thread about Mabin! Kid has, indeed, been picked on by opposing offenses, but he's elevated his game and started to make them pay. Visions of King and Ott returning are dancing around in my head -- imagine a defense with that D-line returning, Ott on the end, an experienced secondary, and two nearly shut-down corners, not to mention a couple of monsters at LB. That would be one salty bunch.

Brandon Snyder played some great Special teams, earlier this year.
I think he steps in easily for Neil Lomax

I thought he played a great game against Nebby. He didn't play all that well before or after. Missed a lot of tackles in the MSU game by not wrapping up. Potential is there but he's got some work to do.
