For decades now, those concerned about global warming have been predicting the so-called “tipping point” — the point beyond which it’ll be too late to stave off catastrophic global warming.

It seems like every year the “tipping point” is close to being reached, and that the world must get rid of fossil fuels to save the planet. That is, until we’ve passed that deadline and the next such “tipping point” is predicted.

Would you believe it was eight years ago today that the United Nations predicted we only had “as little as eight years left to avoid a dangerous global average rise of 2C or more.” This failed prediction, however, has not stopped the U.N. from issuing more apocalyptic predictions since.

To celebrate more than two decades of dire predictions, The Daily Caller News Foundation presents this list of some of the “greatest” predictions made by scientists, activists and politicians — most of which we’ve now passed.

1. 2015 is the ‘last effective opportunity’ to stop catastrophic warming
World leaders meeting at the Vatican last week issued a statement saying that 2015 was the “last effective opportunity to negotiate arrangements that keep human-induced warming below 2-degrees [Celsius].”

Pope Francis wants to weigh in on global warming, and is expected to issue an encyclical saying basically the same thing. Francis will likely reiterate that 2015 is the last chance to stop massive warming.

But what he should really say is that the U.N. conference this year is the “last” chance to cut a deal to stem global warming… since last year when the U.N. said basically the same thing about 2014’s climate summit.

2. France’s foreign minister said we only have “500 days” to stop “climate chaos”
When Laurent Fabius met with Secretary of State John Kerry on May 13, 2014 to talk about world issues he said “we have 500 days to avoid climate chaos.”

Ironically at the time of Fabius’ comments, the U.N. had scheduled a climate summit to meet in Paris in December 2015 — some 565 days after his remarks. Looks like the U.N. is 65 days too late to save the world.

Global warming is the greatest non-threat in history. It's such a joke that the money makers off of it have changed it to climate change in hopes of fooling a few more imbeciles.

I posted a link to an article earlier today about how the 2 degrees figure was just pulled out of somebody's butt.

Prove them wrong Ciggy. Which of those predictions came true?

So Vroom, you sayin' that "global warning" is a farce? Right? You're sayin' that real science (whatever that might be) says "global warming" is a product of liberals, communists and socialist scientists, right?
Why do so many scientists claim "we" should be concerned about the direction the world is moving and there are probably better solutions to follow than continued expansion/use of fossil fuels and your scientists are so much wiser and say fossil fuels are not top blame for anything?

Again - prove the predictions listed please. I never stated what you said above regarding libs\commies, etc, I simply pointed out that there are predictions (several predictions) that don't hold, well, water or ice or smog or polar bears..

They can't and won't.

They are "predictions".....I don't think they are mainstream...but Gawd knows, only "sensational" is newsworthy. I think there is a lot of solid and well respected science that is warning us all of what may happen. The anti-GW folks reaction is to dry Foul! and stick there heads in the sand. You included.

I think what he is saying is that if you are going to talk about how the science is overwhelmingly in your favor and it is telling you something is going to happen by a certain time and then it does not why do you believe the rest of what they have to say.

This is why it is better to leave out a timeline on a prediction. Leave it open ended and the you can go all Nostradamus on it if it comes true and say it will be sometime in the future until then.

Because there are huge profits to be made by in climate science, so long as it confirms global warming. This is as opposed to the oil companies, who have to get by on shoestring budgets. If only the oil companies had money they could fund research that would show the truth.

Did a new funding splurge from oil companies just go into effect or something?

Did you not read the OP's link? You don't need funding from oil companies to know know that lots of people who are trying to scare people about global warming are full of shit.

Right. It just so happens that Big Oil has a lot to lose if people suddenly start buying into the "myth" that pumping billions of tons of carbon emissions into the atmosphere is bad for us. I forgot that all this pollution will only result in rainbows and chicks with big tits.

He ain't going to answer. I tried this with him on another subject and he just ignore the question.
Actually we've never discussed the tipping point before, there, Einstein. As for this silly thread, what the tipping point actually means is not the point where everything starts going to hell. That's just a made up denier talking point to avoid what the real scientists are saying. It refers to the point where we can no longer go back to normal conditions because what greenhouse gases we've pumped in the atmosphere are there to stay. For chrissake, read an actual science article for once, guys.

Read the thread . . .

. . . it's working.
Aren't you the least bit embarrassed claiming that CCers are somehow making money off of global warming when it's actually the fossil fuel industry that stands to lose billions if people do start listening to the actual scientists?
