I just went to my doctor and he took an X-Ray and said I have it bigly.

Yikes.

Anyone had deviated septum surgery?

What was it like?

I did. It wasn’t great. Hopefully the procedure/recovery has advanced in the years since I had it done.
I still occasionally think about them removing the gauze/packing. Just pulling yards of it out from deep inside my head.

It was mostly fine. Puked up blood that had drained into my stomach about an hour after I woke up and it hurt like a mfer when they took the packing out. I would do it again. Breathing through my nose has been life changing

What was your nose breathing like before the surgery?

What year did you have it done?

Had it done 2 years ago. Happy with the outcome.
No pain, doc said keep the packing moist with saline so when it comes out it won't be crusty and hurt. Had bloody drainage and coughed/sneezed out little clots for several days.
Overall, really worth it. Sleeping is much better without waking up every hour d/t a blocked nose.

Years ago I had a bad wipeout knee boarding, face got to the water at the same time as the board was coming back up. Edge of the board right across the bridge of my nose. The board won, crushing my nose - the old ENT said it was about the worst he'd ever seen. Pretty much deviated my septum such that I had one really big nostril.
Had surgery to repair it, which seemed to just simply be a pair of round pliers that worked in reverse - the more he squeezed the wider they opened, pushing things back into place.
Yeah, it was fun 10 days later when he removed the packing - which brought al of my nose hairs with it. Holy sheeeet, I could've used some pain medicine for that part.

I had nasal polyps removed, ENT suggested I had a deviated septum, but I just did the polyps. I have a friend who had this procedure done twice and he's still not right. As for me, the polyps never returned, and I can breathe mostly okay. Worst part is I had to go back and have cautery scabs suctioned out, which absolutely sucked.

Yes, had a severely deviated septum and an enlarged turbinate that was taken care of during the same procedure. Had it done in my early 20s and it wasn't bad at all despite being such a bad case. I never needed a single pain killer for it (I am also tough af tbf 😉) but expect a lot of blood loss for 4 or 5 days. I had to replace gauze under my nose constantly and the removal of the plastic stints is an interesting experience. They're much bigger than you think they could be. First night sleeping after the surgery was a game changer for me, even with the stints and massive scabbing.

Yes
First if anywhere near UI do it there.
ENT is top notch.
The “recovery” is a little rough.
When then pull out the sutures it’s like a knife is stuck in your forehead.

Funny story - i think.
I got mine done, stitches come out and they release me. I got blood, snot, etc coming out. Walk the walkway between hospital and parking garage and got a huge mouthful of snot, blood, saliva. Seriously a mouthful.
Gotta unload and run to side of ramp. Spit it out without looking then see about half a dozen smokers out for their fix. I ducked out before the landing but heard screams.

..I should call her..

I always thought deviated septum surgery was code word for nose job
No, unfortunately it’s just straightening out your nose, internally, so you can breathe through it.
I smashed my nose sledding one time. That’s the only thing I could ever think of that caused mine.
