This isn't a senior laden team... If the Juniors come back next year schedule will be tougher... But the guys that could be returning... I think we could have two special seasons in a row...

I don't know if this team has that something special... We will see but the schedule isn't daunting....

If no one like King or Beathard decides to leave early next year's team would be pretty veteran across the board.
If this team "over achieves" by winning 9-10 games... Next year could be really special! And expectations could be through the roof...

We won't have seen this kind of expectation since 1984 after the Freedom Bowl

Ott, Meier, Lomax and Fischer will be gone on D and they are all having good years. Hopefully King stays. The good news is there are some young DEs getting playing time this year.

On offense, Blythe, Walsh, Canzeri, Smith, Hillyer, Duzey, Henry Krieger Coble will all be gone. I think the WRs are the biggest area of concern because of losing Smith.

Oh my God this board is going to be a mess come Saturday evening if Iowa loses.

Expectations are way out of whack right now.

Agree 100%. For those of us that have been around a while, epic meltdown is looming. Seen it many times around here.

People really need to scale it back a little. Yes, be excited as Iowa is certainly better than last year. However, Iowa really hasn't beat anyone of relevance yet. All are games Iowa should win. Until we actually beat someone, say Wisconsin, please slow it down.

This board is a mess after any loss. You got guys that sit around and bitch after a win.

The people that are giving positive expectations aren't the ones that act like spoiled children after a loss.

Nobody is predicting 12-0 that I have seen.

But if iowa loses saturday the ones who will come in here Saturday night and next week won't be the ones talking right now about the positives.

It will be the negaHawks that hardly come around except to criticize and berate. Those will be the ones "melting down" along with a handful of the regulars that go up and down with every single thing.

It's a message board. People talk about possibilities. Nothing wrong with that

i don't think anyone will be melting down if Iowa loses. People realize it would be an upset if Iowa wins.

NegaHawks. Very funny, and appropriate, lol.

I'm feeling good about the situation, but not crazy-good. My prediction of a 9-3 season included a loss to the Badgers. Not saying I'm hoping that actually happens, of course, as I'd love to lose to no one, but the odds of that are about the same as monkeys flying out of my butt.

Why is it human nature to do things that we hate to do, I am guilty of this all the time, however; I am really trying to enjoy this team right now

The haters will come out with great vengeance and furious anger Samuel L. Jackson style. I'm talking pitchforks and hammer handles "I told you so" type fervor.

There is a portion of this board that - not joking - hates Iowa being 4-0 with a passion. Their best laid plans of Ferentz getting fired before the end of his contract - they know - slip away with every win. Kirk 3.0 is literally the exact opposite any of them desire - every win this year means Bret Bielema isn't going to be the head coach in 2016.

That's a lot of pent-up anger, straining to be released.

THis is unfortunately so true, also every time Bielema opens his mouth it is less and less likely he will ever be our head coach

I am on record as saying that the only things between Iowa and 12-0 are injuries and a return to the coaching of the last 5 years. Of course I got beat up pretty good for that.

And I stand by it. There is not a team on the schedule that Iowa shouldn't beat.

That is because you did not word it the way you just worded it here......you were much more spiteful, critical, pessimistic, ect.

Also, saying that Iowa "should" win with games @Wisc, @NW, and @ Nebby with a tough home game against Minn. you are just setting your self up for disapointment, because I think the vast majority of people would consider Iowa winning these 4 games and going 12-0 to be more of a surprise then Iowa losing these 4 and going 8-4 (which by the way is about 3 more wins than many predicted) You see this is the problem, you just set yourself up to be pissed off and it becomes a self-serving prophesy and then we have to hear about it. I am just hoping for 5-0, but if we end up 4-1 not the end of the world and already exceeding most expectations

You think Iowa should beat Wisconsin, Northwestern and Nebraska on the road? Not that they could but that they should. I think those expectations are unrealistic but as long as you don't claim the season as a failure if they go 11-1 to each his own.

This is a team that in August many were saying we had the worst coach in college football, worst offensive coordinator in all of football and a roster full of Mac recruits.

It's not likely the Hawks run the table, but I wouldn't be stunned if they did. However, I have always based SHOULD beat on where Vegas puts the line. I realize their goal is all about getting even money on both sides, but Wisconsin is favored for a reason. They are pretty good and playing at home. As far as I am concerned if Vegas favors you, you should win the game. The favorites normally win.

Yep, it would be an upset if Iowa wins Saturday. A mild one, but still an upset.

expectations next year will be high, but not any higher than 2010. With that team, and schedule, people were thinking national title run.

I have the Hawks going 9-3 this year and yes Wisky is one that I thought we'd drop. Do I want that to happen hell no ! Go Hawks

NAILED IT.
Hey hey hey!!! We should slow down folks.. Watch a good game Saturday. Enjoy the game and know both teams want to win it! A GAME - NOT a season - and NOT the end of the world if Iowa loses. Please give respect to our opponents... Our players do. Enjoy the moment. Being interested/supportive is GREAT! Smile..its great to be alive and enjoy sports!!

I like how you think. I wish I could be that optimistic. :)

Change shouldn't to couldn't and I'm with you.

My quote previously was almost verbatim. The difference this time is instead of saying "injuries or coaching" I said a "return to coaching of the last 5 years."

Sorry I don't live my life hoping I won't be disappointed. I don't lower my expectations so I won't be upset.

As to answer someone else will I be upset if they go 11-1? Does that get them into the CCG? What is the goal of the program? KF said it was to win a Championship. This year sets up for that better than any year in recent memory.

And I stand by my statement that they SHOULD beat every team on the schedule. That doesn't include the CCG. Don't know who that will be. And will reassess at that time if necessary. Same with bowl or heaven forbid do I dare mention Playoffs?

Although I think I am going to try the "don't get your hopes up" with my clients. See how that goes over.

Sorry my friend, there is something called posting history and here is what you said:
"In my opinion the only thing preventing the Hawks from 12-0 is KF and injuries" That is not saying anything remotely to what you claimed you said....saying specifically KF will be the reason we do not go 12-0 and saying the coaching the last 5 years needs to change is very different. You claim you made a general statement with a time frame, when in reality that is not the case....you can go back and check yourself if you like, none the less Good try trying to backpeddle

Not trying to back peddle. You are correct, I said COACHING this time, and specifically KF last time. Last time I checked KF is the coach. He is the one who is responsible for the coaching of the last 5 years.

So to be clear...that I stand by my statement.

"In my opinion the only thing preventing the Hawks from 12-0 is KF and injuries"

I REALLY hope people will still enjoy an 8-4 season... Agree that expectations are getting crazy. The truth is we are a good team. Long ways from a great team. I would be ecstatic over even 10-2, but we have a lot of position units that will not be as good as our opponents. It will take some incredible magic to get to 10 wins. Here's hoping to magic and not freaking out if we lose to teams we should lose to.
